I watched his videos and posts on those ball joints wearing out and I also read your entire thread where you put the plate, and I put a plate on one of mine that's going out. (Posted in what have you done to your 5 ton)
The one with the rectangle already attached I assume was built like that...
I agree, the original lasted a long time, even simp said he has 2 still original on his truck!
The safety plate saves me some work doing it myself and obviously makes the problem less severe if they do let go.
I've been reading and researching on these bushings and I'm leaning towards the ones with the preinstalled safety plate. Like the korean deuce thread style.
The HD style look interesting due to the lack of rubber to deteriorate on a truck that admitedly sits a lot, especially during summer...
Thanks again Simp.
I made a plate for the bad torque rod bushing. I made a couple of drill guides on the lathe 1 for 1/4 inch pilot and one for 17/64. I drilled and tapped it and put a plate on it to make sure it doesn't pop off. I will replace them before I do any road driving right now I'm...
So here's a stupid question I noticed that the U-joints have two grease fittings. Is that just to make it easy or do I have to hit both of them?
I've never seen that on a U-joint before that's why I'm asking.
Well, hard choices, but I picked Rmtaunton this month, I'm a sucker for a crane truck!
I have that exact model crane from an MTV to put on my M931a1...hopefully sooner than later.
Thanks simp, I actually thought of the needle style after the fact, haven't seen mine in forever, I'll get an other one. I have extra standard tips, might try grinding one down, good Idea.
Thanks for always being helpful :goodjob:
I went crawling under the truck greasing zerks and managed to get most of the U-joints, I couldn't get the ones on the short propeller shaft between the trans and T-case. The grease gun tip is too fat. Does this one require disassembly or is there a thinner grease coupling?
I also noticed this...
I thought the same thing, I'd install it with a spacer. Thankfully mine tested good when I checked them a couple months ago, I do need to drive mine more though. I may look into installing plates while on the truck.
Gotcha, yea I hate the references to higher level maintenance and then there's no higher level TMs. I saw the crane work before it was removed from the donor truck, I'm just thinking ahead and like to have all the knowledge and resources I can.
Subbed, I have a crane, I plan to put it on my m931a1. The only info I have is from the mtv tms, do you have seperate troubleshooting manuals? I'd be interested in case I run into issues when I finally mount it and start messing with it. Thanks.
