I was thinking, with all this swapping drivetrains, why not just take a solid engine and manual trans out of an old big rig. I'm not very knowledgeable as to what's common and revered, but it seems like an ideal solution to what you do. I know I'd like a setup like that.
I had a similar problem with my bumper Crane that I made for my F-250, the boar was the same diameter as a axle stub I had, I straightened it and put the axle stub in it. Now it is strong enough to lift a full-dress motorcycle.

Mine did this when I was playing around with the transfer case, it worked fine when I got it all the way in either high or low. It seems to happen when the case is in between ranges.

My first and so far only is a 5 ton, was looking on craigslist at deuces when I found it. I got it for a personal water tender fire truck and then realized the fun side! It does that job, helps with yard work and is fun to pimp out and put around too.
