My opinion (but you did ask!), the basic full sized M249.
I have one in my weapons display when we do shows, it's very popular with public and veterans alike.
The Para 249 is interesting, but most veterans (including me) have never seen one in the wild, so there is no "connection".
There's my...
Anyone confused by the 5-ton pulling the Stalwart - yes, it is an M813, but Jim did some engineering modifications to it including a turbo, which necessitated switching the air filter from the left fender to the right (M54 style). Jim was a very talented guy.
Jim, Dave/HellonwheelsV100, and I...
It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Jim Green, known on SS as JimK, on the evening of June 13th 2022.
While Jim was an "interesting" character, and not easy to get to know well, he was one of the kindest and most generous people I have had the pleasure to meet...
Depends on how bright it is and where it can be seen best by folks coming up behind you. The tailgate, or even under the bed are good options too.
On my Unimog, which has a soft top, I put a strobe under the back of the bed, so it is always in the shade and thus appears a tad brighter...
I agree on the winter MERDEC.
Lovely looking camo, and very effective in the field. It's how most of our vehicles were painted in the Marines before the 383 came along mid-80s.
Cheers
I second the amber blinky light, a good bright one.
I have one on most of my vehicles, and when we move the slower ones to shows etc. we usually have an M1009 with a full amber light bar as Tailend Charlie.
Check the laws on flashing lights for each state on the trip, though. In Texas you can...
Great bunch of vehicles!
Hambone has a well-deserved significant lead, so doesn't need my help. [thumbzup]
I've long been infatuated with Miggins' forklift, that has to be one of the coolest pieces of equipment out there (yes, I covet it!).
In the past there was always a reason I didn't...
The door frame data plate should tell you if its an A2 or A3 (if the NP208 is original to the truck, it's an A3).
There are very few of the dually CUCVs, so it would be worth it to fix that one up.
If you promise not to tell anyone that I modified my A2 🤫 - I replaced the 3-speed with a 700R4...
"Off-the-shelf" vehicles are common in all the services for non-tactical use.
Stake bed trucks like that are particularly numerous as they are useful for general duty hauling of anything from laundry to chow hall supplies to fuel drums to whatever.
Here's a picture of a newer truck (Ford, I...
Marines don't use bumper numbers for ID, but it looks like maybe the unit ID is right there in the photo with the emblem, just need the last number of the UIC.
All Marine units have a UIC (Unit Identification Code), it is an M followed by 5 numbers. It is usually somewhere on the door of MVs...
Here's the one I used. It does require some modification on the hold-downs because it is slimmer on top than the old one.
Mine came from seller highracing on fleabay, $275 shipped.
Brand: DH Racing Parts
Manufacturer Part Number: DPI850 850 CU850

Yep, direct drop in replacement for the CUCV radiator. None of the auto parts stores around here had a replacement so I had to order one, I'll get the brand/part number today.
Cheers
Looks good, Dave. (Well, unless you are a 4-axle HEMTT owner... ;) )
Though I am a supporter and member of the "other national group", I will freely admit that they have done zip as far as I know to help with any MV legislation in states where help was needed.
Cheers
Back in December the radiator in one of my 1009s was leaking (tank cracked). I put in an all aluminium radiator, it works like a champ. I had to make a couple of clamp adapters to hold it firmly in place because it is slightly smaller than the original, cools way better though.
I'll dig out...
Doubt you'll get any. Looks like he logged in, asked a question and didn't come back. Happens a lot, some folks never even look at the answers to what they asked. :/
Cheers
