I'd replace the spring and eventually do a compression test first, before going through all the work of pulling the head.
(No big deal to replace a spring, with the piston at TDC. It's a one-man job and can be done with no special tools.)

I only based my assumption on what you said initially, the motor running "solid" - and the fact that a cylinder with a shattered valve spring would make an engine run rough and under-powered, at least...
If you mean those Isuzu NPR wheels like shown at the bottom of that iink/page, the pilot hole is correct (Ø 6.457") but the problem is their backspace being way over 6" (probably more like 8-9" since they are designed for dual rear wheel configuration).

If you had this other style: , then the pilot hole of those wheels in question will have to be enlarged.
To me that looks like a piece of a valve spring. If it's hardened steel (a file doesn't grab) and little over 3/16" in diameter, then it is...
Now, for the second part of your question - if the first is confirmed then you may want to pull both covers and make sure all twelve springs are intact...
Where? Did you crack open the lines at the injectors and got fuel there?
Best to remove all glow plugs and crank it until you see fuel mist blowing out of the holes. Only then it will fire up immediately.

From this figure it seems that the end where your thumb is (line #2) goes to the upper line (#6) attached to the frame.
With the TC in N, and wheels chocked.... jack up one wheel, then turn the other one 1 full revolution while counting the number (and fraction) of turns the drive shaft made.
That number, times two, is your ratio.
If you have a 2.73:1 ratio, your drive shaft will spin exactly 1.365 turns. Or...
If you look really hard, long enough, maybe you'll find some.....? Best to place an ad in the classifieds.... (sorry, couldn't resist...:giggle:)

That hex on the backside is an odd size; exactly 45mm. So either you have a 1-13/16" open-end already, or take an old, worn 1-3/4" and grind it to fit, or be happy with a large crescent wrench, as NDT suggested.
