Ha! No soldier B involved, did it all by myself (Armstrong). Took my time setting up the axle clamps followed by the tow bar, using a broken pallet on edge to hold the tow bar at the right height to catch the pintle hitch. Keep the information coming, I appreciate the guidance. My next hook up...
Thank you for the compliment. When I hooked it up, the block hook was really close to the duce’s grill guard. Secondly this was the first time I’ve ever hooked the wrecker to another vehicle, learning curve figuring it all out 😁 (and loved every minute of it).
Last weekend I decided to take all the missing wrecker equipment that I have been collecting over the last 3 years and set up my M543 to tow a M35. Saturday 11/13 a museum I volunteer at was having a “wings and wheels” car, airplane, motorcycle and boat show. What better place to tow around a...
Thank you Tim,
You provided great information! This weekend I will be out at the museum and will look at the button on the brake lock, as your diagram shows verify if the button has excessive wear, if it moves freely and confirm the manufacturer name.
While reading the PDF, I did remember...
Thank you DG,
I will try the brakes with the air system drained and look into a master cylinder rebuild kit. The brake adjustment seem OK (by sound after I adjusted them). My main question would be what could cause ALL the wheels to lock up together when applied.
Over the last week or so, I’ve had a brake issue with my M-548 wrecker. After depressing the brake pedal the brakes will not release again. The harder you depress the pedal, the harder the brakes apply. The brakes will only release if you crack a wheel cylinder bleeder at a wheel on any axle...
Are new GM starter bolts “good” and new ARP starter bolts “better”? I am wanting to switch mine out to prevent a future problem. My plan is to replace the existing bolts and torque the new bolts to factory spec.
This weekend I spent more time with the " Ugly Duckling" volunteering at the museum. The museum has 3 storage boxes (2 containers 1 truck trailer) that were staged right next to each other. In an effort to gain more covered vehicle parking, the storage containers were moved 13 feet apart and a...
Exactly! I'm always looking for reasons to exercise her! In the next few weeks, I will be moving several storage containers (Intermodal containers) for the museum. The more that I run and use her, the better she runs!
Several months ago I used my M-543 wrecker at a local museum that I volunteer at and forgot to post pictures! Myself and another volunteer have been painting the museum's T-33 and wanted to reattach the wing tip fuel tanks (that have never been installed). The tip tanks are not really heavy...
Welcome!
Nice score! I love my 1009. This site is a wealth of knowledge, the search function will be your friend. Just about every repair topic has been covered at one time or another. Post more pictures!
Dsilverline, hello from a fellow Californian! Thank you for your step by step install with pictures. Recently I purchased locally a GM 6.5 turbo set up (and other items) and will install it on my M-1009. Can you describe more your turbo oil feed line set up, long with your electric fuel pump...
I appreciate the advise nyoffroad, hit a little roadblock with the thermostat. My local parts house (I buy local when I can) could not get a 190 therm, only showed 180, 195, 205 (?), etc. Ended up going through a "South American River" named company to get a AC delco 190 therm. My local parts...
Thank you CUCVRUS for the advice. I will do what you suggested and change all the gaskets while the cooling system is drained. Maybe "Flush" the back of the heads while the covers are off.
In the next few days I will be changing out my leaking heater hoses and thermostat (while i'm there). Currently my 09 is at a friends ranch, my question is what size heater hoses and length do I buy? Secondly what temp thermostat do I purchase? Living in the central valley of California it get...
