It seems (based on forum posts and youtube videos) that a not insignificant number of installations are using some aftermarket repurposed automotive style condenser core - usually these are like 1/2" to 1" thick and have VERY tiny flat tube construction so they hold only a small amount of...
@MatthewWBailey - How sure are you of the accuracy of your tach? Isn't it running off the VR?
Just trying to reconcile a seemingly functional truck, no codes present, and the stall test results.
CAT ET or any J1939 setup will read the tach from the ECM also.
Ideally - but it's locked in every gear except 1 and 2 - did they pick some absurd stall rating? Because mil-spec? IDK but if his trans was slipping I would think there would be codes stored.
What is the stall speed rating of the torque converter? I can hookup CAT ET to my truck and do a stall speed test. Stall speeds are not a hard number - they are subject to engine performance also. I know the TC has a 1.9:1 effective reduction when fully loaded (stalled)...... although I wouldn't...
Sounds like it. Whoever wired it might have wired the fan current through the switch and it's probably not rated to handle it. This burnt out the contacts in the switch. A possibility you should investigate anyway.
C9 is way too much torque for the Allison 3070 or 3700. Both are officially rated at 860 Ft/lbs and according to sources at Allison that FMTV owners have spoken with it is considered OK to fudge that up by another 100 Ft/lbs so at the highest rating of the C7 we are at 932 Ft/lbs of a...
If you have the full gen 2 system with the military condenser, etc - the official capacity is 4 pounds (64 Ounces). I was advised by an experienced Motorpool vet that 3.5 lbs is usually where they find they work well.
Operator level PMCS (After Operation):
1. Check fuel/water separator (Figure 4, Item 3) for leaks or damage. Notify Field Maintenance if leaks or damage are found.
Class I leak exists.
Pass Fail
2. Check for presence of water in bowl (Figure 4, Item 4) of fuel/water separator (Figure 4...
The DPA-3 works totally fine with my C7 over serial. And the speed is basically identical from what I can tell vs. the DPA-4 - It doesn't seem like the limitation is the interface between the DPA and the PC. USB is nice since it will work with more laptops. I do like the serial cable itself...
So explain why DLA sells the ICE kits on Govplanet with these supposedly "restricted distribution" TM's on CD's in the kit?
They make the units pull the hard drives out of the MSD's. But they leave the sealed discs with all the TM's on them. Hundreds have been sold on eBay with these discs.
So...
The reality is that no one actually cares - it's a cargo truck not a weapon system. Ukraine has all of the manuals and a whole bunch of MSD V3's - I know units that were directed to turn some of their equipment in for disposition to Ukraine. Not to mention we gave them the TRUCKS themselves...
Oh I'm well aware of what it does and how it works. I do diagnostics and re-rates for people. But a scan tool isn't a shop manual. That's why at my shop I have multiple scan tools, a PICOScope, DVOM's, and a subscription to Shopkey (Snap-On/Mitchell) and other resources.
You are ignoring all...
Which gives you codes and maybe some useful live data. Don't get me wrong - it's the critical first step. But it doesn't tell you what to do with the strings of digits you get out of it. It's just one piece of a much larger puzzle. And yeah you can pull the codes, ponder at the live data with no...
Correct. It has the A1R and the A1P2 which really helps with A1R information because the A1P2 shares the C7 and later Allison. The military doesn't call them A1R - they just call it an A1 with a serial number above 100,000
User friendly..... I mean it's designed for soldiers to use..... There's...
Yeah the DPA 3/4/5 is a good J1939 interface adapter. The military used them in the STE-ICE kits and they are still in the system available to order for unit level diagnostics.
That's just part of what the military laptops do though. They also have all the (gigabytes of) manuals integrated...
I build MSD V4 laptops for our trucks if you are interested. I have a black SWICE kit available at the moment. Black SWICE kit and Dell 7214 with all manuals, CAT ET, etc is about $2500. These will not only communicate with the truck but with the electronic manuals it will walk you through the...
