    New M38A1 Project

A little perplexed by your comment NDT, no tailgate would make a C. Now in my case, a tailgate was fabbed in by a PO, so it could stand to reason it was added later to keep random bits from falling out the rear lol. Either way, nice looking rig Shooter! Welcome aboard and have fun with it.

What have you done to your JEEP today

I've had it a couple of weeks now, but after a three month wait, my top arrived! Finally get to stop the big burny ball from scorchin my noggin! And since I got my bows from a gent that makes them, the top rod holes weren't drilled. And then the rods wanted to keep popping out once I got the...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Thats a lot lol! I appreciate the info, which I'm aware of all of it. Now, for some background, I'm a goldsmith, so soldering is my way of life lol. I usually have access to multiple types of compounds for polishing but am currently quarantined, so I can't get to any of it. I used what I had on...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Didn't do much today, but I did decide to see if I could get some of the haze off the gauge lenses. Not great, but at least I can read them again. And this is doing it with them still in the dash, I'll be able to do more when they're out. It was a quick hit with 1000 grit paper and then a two...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I may need to do that at some point with my latest buy. The original dual pump is still on the block but an electric one had been installed by a previous owner. Or, I just get the rebuild kit and do it myself when I have the time...

    I may have a problem...

Scrolling through FB marketplace last Friday evening and I run across a Jeep listed as a 1952 Willys. In the description, seller says it's military, which it is. Because it's the "C" variant! Since they weren't really aware of what they had, I messaged the seller and filled them in a little...

What have you done to your JEEP today

What have I done? Well, my Jeep was feeling lonely and wanted a friend. So, I did what any loving owner would do, got it a playmate! I'll write up a new post about it in the next few days.

What have you done to your JEEP today

The plug I happened to find on ebay, been a few years so I haven't the slightest idea who the seller was. And my setup is 12V, it had been converted before I bought it. So, a normal 12V charger is all I need.

    1960 CJ-5

Fuel, spark and air. Gotta be one if those. Check voltage on the coil, if good, go to points/condenser. If all the electronics test good, go to fuel. You can disconnect the fuel line at the carb, turn the engine over to see if you have fuel pressure. If none, plugged filter or pickup, even the...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Hadn't really planned on doing all this over the weekend, but hey, I'm not going to argue with myself over it! Originally I was only going to do the bumperettes, taillights, pintle hitch and lift shackles. Then decided I may as well at least prime the mounting areas of the spare carrier, gas can...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Yup, wire wheel of death on an angle grinder. I learned early on to wear my welding apron, those wires come flying out with some force and let me tell you, it's like someone flicks you in those important parts. Not enough to bring you to your knees, but enough to get you a little queasy! Gone...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I'm consolidating a couple days worth into one post lol! Today, after waiting for almost two weeks for a muscle in my back to stop throwing a hissy, I finally got out and did some work. Cleaned up my rear crossmember, bumperettes and lift brackets. Now I can start disassembling everything and...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Thank you! I pretty much have an issue with using units that weren't relevant to the time frame of any given vehicle lol. And, it's not one that many will understand until explained.

What have you done to your JEEP today

Been a lot going on, so I've missed a few days. But, the Jeep has new shoes! No, they're not NDCC's though, I went with NDT's. And, I happened to get my bumper designations on! Well, at least on the front bumper. I had a buddy ask me last summer what I was going to use,I had no idea at all...

What have you done to your JEEP today

I have a rear seat! I hadn't planned on putting one in this early, but decided I may as well. Brackets and all the fixins were cheap enough, got both cushions off ebay for a decent price, so why not? Cleaned and tapped all the bolt holes in preparation for the seat frame, which I had built by...

What have you done to your JEEP today

The wife would probably disavow me! Because she knows I'd have a difficult time saying no. I've got a buddy in Minnesota that picked up a M37 recently and decided since I'd mentioned I liked those and it would be a fun vehicle to have, he needs to find me one to start reworking. I'm being smart...

What have you done to your JEEP today

Decals applied, makes it waaaay cooler! Those little things add the "pop" to the almost finished project. Seat frames painted finally, new covers arrived, slipped them over the existing cushions just to get a idea of the look it will have when they get finished up. Rear seat is being fabbed...

    M38A1 Rear Main Seal Replacement

You're welcome! It's so weird since the pan is so accessible, no crossmember in the way! The pickup really doesn't even really give you a headache.

    M38A1 Rear Main Seal Replacement

Either way, I've done both. Easier out, but way quicker in. Getting the top seal in is of course tricky because of the crank being in the way, but there's a few tricks to make it simpler. Drain the oil, pull the pan, pull main cap and replace the seal.
