It was unsuccessful because no one wanted to bid the overly greedy GP starting bid. When GL was selling them, they often went unsold at the $150 starting bid. GL sometimes had to sell 2 M105s in one lot just to move them.
Hey, I made it too! Had to abandon the convoy at a rest area so I could get to the rally site before sunset. The rest of the convoy arrived after dark. My tail running lights on the USAF flight line van went out in the morning, so I'm a daylight driver until I can figure out what's going on...
So much to do and so little time left to do it. I've been so busy I haven't had time to start getting ready. Just offloaded the drums of deer corn and sacks of horse rye grass off the flatbed so I can start loading. As Jerry Reed sings "I've got a long way to go and a short time to get...
Got the M931A2 tractor and M871 trailer combo checked out to start hauling hay. Had one hub on the truck and one hub on the trailer frozen, requiring precise application of a 10lb sledge hammer to get them free. I've started the engine a few times, but haven't moved them in 4-5 months. Hauled...
That's Rayzer "RocketMan" on the launch pad, coming to an orbit near you soon!
Have a good trip Ray. I'll be camping on Fontana lake near Bryson City after the Rally on the way home.
Works for me.
Returning from the Rally last year doing 60-65, it took 10 hrs to drive past your house on the way home which included a 1/2hr construction delay and fuel/rest stops. Of course, on Sunday there was no rush hour traffic and I ate on the run. If we left at 0600 CT, we should...
To continue my post #209 ...
(By the way, Taylor Trading Co has medium tow bars in the crate cheaper than me - he must have got better deal than me!.:???: Buy his first, then PM me :-D)
Let me know if you want me to bring any of the items since if I don't hear any interest I may not bring...
Got a bunch of 14.00x20 Goodyear tires mounted on 5-ton rims, probably 75% or better tread - $175 delivered to the rally.
Some Goodyear G177 11.00x20 tires mounted on 5-ton rims, 80% or better tread - $150 each delivered to the rally.
11.00x20 NDT tires mounted on 5-ton rims, 60-80% tread...
Great news! Recovering from basal and squamous cell excisions and two completely torn rotator cuff tendons myself. Getting old sucks. Now, back to the trucks, just a little slower and one day/one project at a time.
I regularly flat towed other 5-tons weighing 21-23000 lbs with my M923 and M925, but that is with brakes hooked up on the towed truck. No issues with engine or drive train, and the temps were in the normal range. You just need to expect slower speeds on hills and much longer stopping...
Got 939 series Duallys, A1s and A2s. Love all three models for different reasons (many stated above). As long as it starts and runs reliably, it's a GOOD truck and I'm proud to drive it.
The M925 IMHO is the best cargo truck our military ever used. I just can't decide if the A1 or A2 is the top. I drove my M925 a couple of weeks ago to winch someone out - forgot how much I liked driving it.:driver: Hope you and your wife enjoy yours as much. I know you will remember the trip...
I like the M101A2/A3 to tow behind a PU since they are the same width as the PU and have an 8 foot long bed. You can haul 4' wide plywood above the wheel wells in a M101A1 or A2 trailer.
The M1101/2 trailers are 87" wide and may stick out 6" or so on each side of your PU, and the bed is around...
I've used a 5kBTU AC unit driven by a Honda 2kw generator in a vinyl covered M101A2 trailer that kept me cool at night. Haven't tried it during the day in the sun.
I set it on the tailgate with the front of the AC on the bed, and covered the back opening of the trailer with a tarp tucked in...
I'll be going up probably in a slow CUCV and trailer, but may not return directly after the rally. Depending on which CUCV is running reliably at the time, max speed will be either 55, 60 or 65 mph.
