I sure hope so. This forum has been such a wealth of information to me...I would like to think this could be my
chance to "give back" to others.
There has not been much progress on the Jeep in terms of work. However, parts have been arriving in the mail.
The one thing I have done is install...
Welcome & congrats on the new rig! Can you post some pictures? We like pictures of MVs
You noticed you joined in 2009 and only have 32 posts. That is pretty impressive.
the missing plate displays the winch controls.
To answer your serial# question, this is my go-to page for serial #...
alright gentlemen....it turns out the fix was (somewhat) simple once I figured out what the deal was.
Apparently there is a in-line resistor which sets under the original coil at the bottom of the dist housing. This resistor is not mentioned in ANY military technical manual I have in my...
Im going through this right now (how I found this thread). The new coil I purchased for my M38A1 is taller than the original and won't allow the dist to properly close.
The saga (headache?) continues.
I went to install my new coil and it turns out my replacement coil is too tall and blocks the dist from properly closing/sealing against the housing.
Where have you purchased trouble free and well fitting replacement coils for you M38A1?
Also the coil I removed...
The coil is not new....and it looks to be older than dirt.
I went ahead and ordered a new 24v coil & condenser. I figured I might as well replace both while I have the dist opened up.
They should be here either saturday or monday (hopefully saturday) depending on how quickly USPS works their...
I took the Jeep for a drive today and ended up doing a partial "walk of shame".
It began mis-firing and then...poof...he's dead Jim.
I called a local buddy/farmer who towed it back to the house while I steered. During the tow I tried popping the clutch to see if the jeep would start. The Jeep...
I COME BEARING MAJOR JEEP NEWS!! IT'S ALIVE!!!
Today the last few parts I needed arrived via snail-mail (distributor rebuild kit, spark plug wire, & YOM plates).
When I made it home from work I installed my 1952 TX license plates (I am going to run YOM plates). I then changed the guts of the...
Porkys: The solid state ignition is something I am researching. From what I have read, the kit fits well in the m38 & m151 dist units but requires a little work to squeeze them in the m38a1 dist housings. It's not a deal breaker but it is something I am looking into...
Last night I decided to break new ground in my automotive experiences. I opened the distributor and did some maintenance. This was my first time to EVER open a dist. I cleaned all contacts, set my points gap (.020), and lubricated everything before re-assembly. The whole process was much easier...
**zombie thread**
Dualmatics are AWESOME!! I am hunting a set for my M38A1 at the moment.
If you replace yours with WARN models, the dualmatics go for a pretty penny on certain auction sites.
I was able to sell my PTO on my M38A1 Facebook group. Coincidentally, the buyer was the same guy who sold me the carburetor. The plan is to put the proceeds right back into the Jeep.
Late last night I went to connect the horn switch (so I could test my original horn). Being dark outside, I...
how did you unscrew (or re-screw) your horn switch? I have absolutely NO room for a wrench & am (so far) unable to remove the wiring dongle from the switch but I'm going to re-try after soaking in PB. If I can unplug the wires from the switch I won't need to uninstall the switch (I just need to...
thanks for the heads-up on the data plate rivet website. I'll be ordering tonight.
I was off work today and REALLY churned & burned on the Jeep.
I started the day by installing the carb and hooking up all the odds & ends. I lubed the choke & throttle cables so they actually actuate now. I'm...
I didn't buy any of my plates. These are the original data plates which came mounted on the Jeep. I just removed them and then restored them (see earlier pics in the thread for before/after pics). The only thing I bought was a pop rivet tool which came with a few different rivets.
thanks...
that is awesome news. I need to do some hunting for the correct pop rivets. I am assuming my main plate is setup for rivets since that is how the jeep came to me (everything riveted to the main plate which was bolted to the dash without any funky-ness).
I ended up taking my carb to the local...
My Jeep progress is a waiting game at the moment (waiting on USPS/UPS). The only Jeep tasks I could complete today after work was re-install the passenger fender (it has been off since I initially removed it back 2-ish years ago) and re-rivet by data plates on the body panel.
Apparently the...
