I saw some of the Southern Showoffz trucks, but I didn't introduce myself to them. I hung out around my deuce and the AMK36 for a while, and when the show petered out around 12pm I took off to Gonzales for lunch. It surprised me how little support was there from a 4x4 or truck standpoint...
Attended another car show today. This time it was the 1st Annual 4Wheel Parts Truck Show in Baton Rouge, LA to benefit Toys 4 Tots. Little did I know I would get their early enough to park next to the big boy of the show!
Comments:
1) The local Marines brought out an AMK36 - Armored 7 ton...
So I decided to take a video showing total time for 0-55 mph (top speed) in my bobbed deuce. I was surprised to say the least. By my eyeball stopwatch viewing the video it looks like 17-47 seconds = 0-55 mph = 30 seconds. Not bad!
Anybody else time their military vehicle while accelerating...
After grabbing lunch today I decided to stop by the Louisiana National Guard Armory in Gonzales, LA to see if they would allow me to take a few pictures of my deuce with their military vehicles. They did! Boy was that a great experience.
Comments:
1) I have no clue what color paint they have...
Biggest engine I have ever worked with was an inline 8 cylinder DeLaval Enterprise 3050 kW backup diesel generator for nuclear service. It was basically a tugboat engine certified for nuclear use. Not very reliable. One of the Enterprise engines broke a crank somewhere in the U.S., so they...
Garrett I didn't spray any primer. Just scuffed the orange paint from Rigid and shot the desert tan over it. I didn't use your leftover paint. It's easier for me to get rattle cans to match. I know it's probably off because of the orange base coat.
So I ran out of space for some of my tools on the deuce. I decided to mount a toolbox in the deuce bed.
Comments:
- Rigid Toolbox 2048-OS from Home Depot
- M5XT locks from Home Depot
- Desert Tan touch-up paint is a little off
- Not showing how I mounted it to the bed and other theft...
Finished off the heater install from the Vintage Air Gen II Super system this week.
Click here to fast forward directly to my post #480 for more information & pictures.
So I finished the heater install for the Vintage Air Gen II Super system because the weather in Louisiana turned cold (for at least a few days). I thought I would run into a problem because the coolant reservoir is a little bit lower than the 2 heater hoses that route into the cab and then into...
Feel free to browse my website at the link below for pics of my combination 24 volt + 12 volt system.
http://hanksdeuce.com/12v_24v_systems.htm
Basically I bought a 50 amp Vanner equalizer to run my 12 volt loads. To clean up the wiring for any future electrical add-ons I installed both a 12...
I don't see a 4.95 gear set option for the Rockwell axle on the Ouverson website. They do show a 4.90 gear set though - click here.
I'm actually thinking about installing the Ouverson 4.90s and their 16 spline lockers in my bobber. The 4.90s would put 55mph at ~1800rpm which is 13% better...
View this direct linked post from my build thread for removing rivets from the factory deuce frame. Bit sizes are 1/4" and 1/2". Drill halfway through the rivet. Then beat it out with a few whacks from a BFH and a punch. For those non-steelworker or non-carpenter types like me I clamp the...
Second video is driving home from the Hammond Mall Car Show (nighttime).
Comments:
- Again, eyes stayed on the road. Just point the iphone, get close to the gauges, and hope for the best.
- Didn't put a compression tee on the Autometer boost gauge at the show, so it's still dead. :)
- Boost...
After many requests I decided to take a few videos from inside the deuce cab while driving. I don't have a Gopro camera or a fixed mount for my iphone, so this is as good as it gets for now.
First video is driving to the Hammond Mall Car Show (daytime).

- I didn't take my eyes off...
