Exactly! I just did vent hoses on Brutus a few days ago. I hope you and I both don't have to change seals in the near future! Those damn vents were selected by the M35 design team also known widely as the MPFC.
Wow! Lucky! That's why I got rid of my constantly sticking axle vents. I could not believe how much pressure was in my front axle when I removed it. Fortunately, the new front inner axle seals I put in last Summer held. I remember driving up to NY State one year. I got about 70 miles from home...
This is a link for the cheater wrench on you tube if anyone is interested. This is the first time I've posted a link, so I hope I did it right! I just tried to schedule Brutus for his annual inspection at Diesel Express. They couldn't do it because they have no inspection stickers due to the...
I bought this torque multiplying lug nut tool a long time ago. It develops up to 4,500 ft-lbs of torque. It works in both directions. It's 1" drive and weighs about 15 lbs. It comes with impact sockets that fit a Deuce. I think I bought the pork chop separately, but I don't remember. It took off...
Wow! Having the wheel ripped out of your hands must have been a shock! I'm glad you were on dirt and going slowly. One thing I was taught years ago, to never have your thumbs gripping the wheel on a big truck. I know it's kind of hard not to in some instances, but I've heard stories of people...
I took care of a problem that has been bugging me for a long time. I replaced my failure prone axle vents with 1/8" NPT brass hose barbs, 1/4" fuel line, and 1/4" soft copper tubing. I routed the rear hose to the frame, the front hose to the side of the heater box. I giant puff of air and...
Sounds like a design weakness in the crank, block or main bearing caps at that point to me. The middle of the crankshaft is where you'd probably encounter the most crankshaft flex and strain.
Amen Frank! Parts for Deuces and 5 tons would be harder to find and much more expensive to buy. It's simply a matter of supply and demand. Long live the Multi-Fuel!!!
There's a lot of good information in this thread. I live in a mountainous area and so there are hills that my Brutus will not pull in 4th or 5th. I usually run my engine to 2,500 rpm before shifting into 4th or 5th, because my rpm will have dropped off too much before I can complete my upshift...
Datsun 1200! Cool! A 510 was the rice burner hot rod. I used to own a 1974 Datsun "Little Hustler" pickup. It would easily haul more weight than my 1980 Dodge 1/2 ton. Real bouncy though. That little 4 banger used to rev like an F1 engine. I bought some flap wheels for my angle grinder from...
This is a very minor thing compared to what you guys are doing, but it's a safety issue that's been bugging me for years. I should have taken care of it long ago. When I bought Brutus, I soon discovered that the folks who bobbed it for me, had attached the rear axle brake copper tubing directly...
Good job m37m35. I have a tiny leak on my radiator too. I'll wait until this Spring to pull it. I always wondered if JB Weld was any good. Never used it myself.
