    M49 deuce generator sourcing

The idle speed is adjustable. Being a fuel truck, I do not know if it has a throttle in the rear that might be partially pulled. Better check that. Otherwise: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/how-to-set-deuce-idle-speed.124629/ The "turbo kits" are still available from vendors. It contains...

    Got my new deuce!

I was basing my observation on PXL_20220311_135506617.jpg There is a big black blob on the top of the differential. I looked at it again and I cannot actually tell if it is oil. Maybe paint? Maybe just road gunk? Anyway...have a look. Might be nothing. Doing the seal there takes about 15 mins...

    Charlie's Deuce Thread

I like that you kept the boxed in front bumper. It is a useful upgrade and looks sharp. Is it just a step or did they put storage into it? If not, that would be a cool project; two shallow boxes with a lid for the chains, shackles and recovery straps!

    Got my new deuce!

Exciting! The pics really do not show anything of concern. The rearmost pinion seal looks like it is leaking a bit. The chassis is super clean and rust free, as you said. For your own sanity, I suggest to split this into two separate projects: 1) the truck (engine, suspension, chassis, seals...

    Canadian MLVW wheels

@m1010plowboy Thank you for the info. I have seen two semis this week with MLVWs and was p'eed off because I had not seen any for sale for a while. That explains, why. Great use of taxpayer money to send them to the crusher instead of letting people buy them individually. Well, hopefully we can...

    Canadian MLVW wheels

My truck is in storage so I cannot get to the rims right now. The Canadian two piece rims are similar to the A3 rims and they are "flatter" than the stock steelies, so that moves the tire closer to the outside of the truck. The rim is also wider, so I am not certain it is less backspacing in the...

New to me Deuce with matching trailer - wrenching post

I get it why the turret hole is annoying, with the need to make it weather tight. However, it is a feature that really sets your truck apart from any look-alikes. It is definitely cool! I would not weld it up or permanently close it. I'd probably go on the hunt for a cab stiffener plate and a...

New to me Deuce with matching trailer - wrenching post

Where I live, the MTO ("DMV") is run by private contractors on behalf of the provincial (state) government. It totally depends on how the local office is being run whether the transaction is unremarkable or hair-pullingly frustrating. Interesting to see that this appears to be the case in most...

    Test run

I have a cheapo 8ton press and it managed. Some came off with a good bang, though!

New to me Deuce with matching trailer - wrenching post

Rebuilding a tranny is a great no-stress winter project ;-)

Got my 1953 M35 t̶r̶u̶c̶k̶ camper back on Friday!

#cattlerepairmanthebobbeddeucehater I have to say, with the tall wheels and tires..and the unicolour paint job...and with side boards and cargo cover hoops installed......it does look good. I hope it brings a lot of fun and joy!

    Test run

You are making me jealous; my truck is still in winter hibernation.....can't wait to get her back. Mid April......

    Test run

With radials and power steering, toe in should be close to zero. You might want to check that. I use the "pvc pipes slide into each other" method on the front and rear of the front tires.

New to me Deuce with matching trailer - wrenching post

If you have worked on cars before, it is easy to underestimate exactly how heavy the Deuce is in comparison. Axle stands are great but even on asphalt I recommend to use 6x6 cribbing (6x6 lumber cut into 2 ft or suitable length pieces) to either underlay the axle stands or build a support to the...

    M35A2 power steering options?

It would be nice if it was splined and removeable, alas, it isn't. One piece shaft. There is really no way around cutting and welding (preferable: cut and have it splined to fit a u-joint) if you want to replace the steering column/shaft. Here is a post that specifically deals with shortening...

Newbie here looking at a 1970 M35A2 have some questions

Here is the definitive guide on unloading a Deuce ;-) Make sure you have a suitable tree.

Newbie here looking at a 1970 M35A2 have some questions

Nothing says "I am so excited!" more than ordering parts even before the truck shows up at home! ;-) Glad you found one that appears to be a good one. Let's hope it turns out to be even better than expected!

    MAN 8x8 Build

Way back when, in a different life, I drove the MAN 8x8 in an older variant, V8 diesel with a ZF semi-automatic transmission. Man, that thing was an offroad beast. So easy to drive, full air lockers and power divider locks on all axles. Unstoppable. Palfinger knuckleboom behind the cab. Mind...

    It's home!

Do you want to bob it or run a single rear axle? One requires the frame to be cut, the other doesn't. Just curious.

    NP205 for the Deuce

@Rusty Stud Based on my own painful experience, I need to revert to what an engineer/heavy equipment tech always tells me when I marvel at fabrication and improvements and loudly think about what would be cool to do. He says "Do not build/engineer something that already exists and is readily...
