Ok, everybody is concentrating on the worst case. That is fair. What about the best case scenario? That the water was high enough to wet the air filter but not high enough to flood the intake, leaving the engine dry? That there was water only in two cylinders, the rest are totally fine? That...
From the factory, as it was mentioned , the M35A2 did not have any of these options. One of the fun aspects of owning one of these is to upgrade it with useful options. That includes some kind of power steering and unlocking hubs.
These options add a little value to the rig as well. If you were...
@Larry S. I am regularly floating a CAT323 with an International tri-axle with a Cummins N14 525 and an 18 speed. That engine is great until you put a heavy load to it, then it falls on its face, but that is another story. Point is, if I could not run the rpm up to beyond 1700 on the grades, I...
Interesting tidbit: at the time, multifuel engines were state-of-the art in military vehicles. In Germany, trucks were so equipped in the 1950' and it is interesting to compare.
MAN (Motorfactory Augsburg/Neckar) that holds the patent for the US manufactured multifuel engines made several...
@Larry S. You have no way of knowing what the odometer reading means. Gauges, engines, transmissions etc. were swapped as needed and you cannot verify what's original to the truck and what isn't. Unless you have the unit maintenance records, the miles or hours on any component are unknown...
Have to? No. But consider the origin of the "new" injectors. Manufactured anytime between 1968 and 199?. In storage here and there and not looked at for decades. From the factory ready to be dropped in - but that was decades ago. The lubricant could be hardened, they can be stuck, who knows...
If you replace single injectors, replace like with like.
Don't mix single hole and two hole injectors unless it is an emergency to get you home.
The two hole injectors superseded the single hole injectors for less smoke and less chance for piston damage (melting). Personally, I ran both and...
Just enough tension to hold the bolts in place firmly. Sorry, not aware of torque specs.
The springs need to take up the frame flex so you want them to remain as long as possible.
We have a similar setup on our brush truck at the fire station. Running up the nuts too far shortened the springs...
Interesting. The EGTs fall with the oiled pleat filters usually because they simply don't filter as well. Not sure that matters in a reasonable environment low on dust.
They are much better than no filter but if independent testing is to be believed they fall way short of paper filters when it...
My nightmare is a rollover in a truck with ZERO ROPS. A forum member here was killed on the drive home in a M35A3 he had just picked up at the auction when a semi rear-ended him, shooting the truck into the median where it rolled.
Your friend was incredibly lucky.
Hopefully the cab is...
If you
- want a truck that is turn key..um...press button ready when you get it and has the closest thing to a "warranty " one can have with a 60 year old vehicle
- do not wish to go through and troubleshoot every major system on the truck or engage in "restoration" type work
- find that complex...
It has been a while but I recall the ends on my air hose to the gauge being the reusable kind (unscrew with two wrenches). Pretty sure I reused them on new hose.

Hmm....I would probably crawl underneath and put it into LOW manually, then drive it and see if there is a transfer case issue. If it does go into low and drives fine, weld up the linkage. Many reasons why it broke; pre-existing damage from a Neanderthal driving, made worse by how the linkage...
@Gunfreak25 That tube chassis looks so cool! I can see plenty of fun ahead, tearing around in that thing. Uh, uh..and it likely needs a beefier engine. And brakes. But mainly a beefier engine! vroooooooooooom..........
Yes, works just fine.

And post #5 describes one with mixed age axles: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/53-studebaker-truck-rebuilt-into-multifuel.195228/
Interesting. I think we'd need a pic that shows it more from the side, showing both scrolls.
Is the truck a runner? Listen to the noise it makes and decide whether you like it. If it was me looking for a truck I'd note as a plus that it is a turbocharged engine and move on to other components...
