M342/M35 trunnion and suspension repair "Watch Wes Work"

Wes is not a military truck mechanic - but a very thorough and methodical general vehicle and equipment mechanic from Illinois. In his YouTube channel he is tracking down a rear suspension issue on a M342 dump truck - very neat and interesting! What started like a loose trunnion bearing quickly...

    M35A2 project

I see that your fender also has the "precision cut" hole for the exhaust. Mine looks like a drunk person torched it out, with eyes closed.

    Removing, rebuilding, reinstalling Hydraulic Head

@GunInstructordotcom If it is just the O-ring, it is a quick fix that sets you back a buck for the O-ring. Save that mortgage money!

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

Yes, you do - albeit a smallish one. About 7 GPM. It looks as if you are having fun with your truck!

    65 Kaiser M35A2 project starts

I would add that, if you DO have the correct tube size, please put those into the steer tires.

    65 Kaiser M35A2 project starts

Yes, the inner tubes will do just fine. They are usually good for a size up or down. Inner tubes for 9.00-20 have successfully been pressed into service for the 11.00-20 tires. One size DOWN is likely better than stretching the tubes into a much bigger tire. GIft horse, mouth etc. and I agree...

    preventable rear suspension failure

My pics from a couple years ago, doing that very work (while replacing the dog bone ends). I can cheat when lifting, due to the massive trailer hitch on my truck.

    Removing, rebuilding, reinstalling Hydraulic Head

A burr at the ferrule can cause persistent leaking. You could polish the ferrule with fine sand paper or scotch brite, then blow the line through and clean the ferrule, put a dab of grease on it (to grease between the line and the nut) and reassemble. If it still is not dry, tighten a little...

    preventable rear suspension failure

Here is my view of the world: No, you really want the weight off the trunnion to assess/adjust and also grease properly. That means jacking up the frame until both axles are hanging free. Yes, it is a bit of a pain. What you CAN do with the wheels on the ground is to take the covers off and...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Queen Lola went on a 125 mile/190km jaunt today. She was happy at 55 mph/88km/h turning 2100 rpm for most of it, some hilly backroads, a little gravel. She really ran well. No undue noises (always welcome) and no undue leaks. A few drips from the transmission (normal when hot). Side windows...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

@Aussie Bloke I am sure your truck will like its buddy! Hope it all goes well!

I cannot un-see that image in my head. :poop:

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Went on a backroads drive for a couple of hours. I live in a beautiful area when the weather is nice! I arrived at the end of a road and the only way to turn around was to use a guy's driveway. I decided to be polite and ask permission, rather than just backing into his driveway (the guy was...

    Brakes shoes slow release

This post also has a few tips. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/threads/brake-frustrations.198123/ Can't hurt to remove the splash plate of the MC lid and also check with a flashlight that there is a vigorous stream of brake fluid returning to the MC when the brake pedal is released. Should see...

    M54A2 help needed

I second what Elk said...time to pull the HH off and see what you find. Also time to change the three Orings and never touch the thing again (hopefully). Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk

M35A3 Rim Restoration and Tire Swap Project (Picture-Heavy)

I found that just tightening the two piece rim did not seal the beads sufficiently to allow the tire to inflate. Mind you, I am using the Canadian two-piece rims that look very much like the A3 rims, but there is no additional "insert" in addition to the two rim pieces. Maybe that is a...

Bought an M35A2, with a unique addition

Um...hose runs from air supply to the wiper control valve in the dash and then to the wipers. What you cut after that dash valve doesn't matter, as long as you leave the dash valve closed.

M35A3 Rim Restoration and Tire Swap Project (Picture-Heavy)

@HDN Looking good! I just did my two piece rims. I used a 3/4 Milwaukee impact to spin the nuts off. They were on tight. I suppose you will be using new O-rings as well. How do you plan on sealing the beads for re-inflation?
