Glad you injuries were not worse. It's easy to get hurt on these things.
I fell off of mine last summer while painting the rear of the cab by getting my feet tangled in a tarp covering the frame.
Landed flat on my back in gravel, poking bunch of holes in my skin, plus ripping a fingernail off &...
Keep in mind that the weight of a 5 ton, even empty, may be over the weight limit of many side roads you may want to drive on.
In my area, anything that is not a state maintained road, seems to have a 10 ton weight limit.
You either have to take the highways or risk getting the fines.
Licensed parts & genuine parts are 2 totally different things.
Had a similar issue with generic bedsides... you could put your knee on them getting something out of the bed & dent them.
Unfortunately the original stuff is getting hard to come by.
Cotter pins are relatively soft.
I just drilled mine out. Cant remember the exact size I used, but around a 3/16" bit. Just be careful not to break off a drill bit in there.
One of the biggest things I see are about hauling a load or cargo(whatever you care to call or interpret it as) (antique or otherwise) is the state wants you to pay for the privledge to haul something.
As an example, a 1 ton truck could be overloaded when empty if you could license/title it as a...
Antique & Classics are a 1 time fee, not annual in PA. Registration is permanent.
As far as usage, I was told by a state trooper, if they see a vehicle with antique plates 2 days in a row, they can cite them for improper use, which should result in taking the registration away.
Moral of the...
Here is my experience...
I got the CDL manual & memorized everything. After getting to the DMV, ready for my knowledge test, I was told there was no test for a non-commercial Class B, not even for the air brakes.
I was amazed. They just handed me the permit after I wrote the check for the...
While it could work, the drawback is you are already limited to an approx 50hp boost before the stock engine is at risk due to lack of piston cooling etc.
To drive a supercharger for an engine this size, the charger itself will draw well over 50hp, meaning you used up all the available increase...
The Lock Right experience I had was not that good. It worked well, but after a few years it started to chatter & lock irregularly.
The teeth were starting to chip & lose contact area. Not sure if it was a heat treat problem or what... it was definitely installed correctly.
This was in a 1/2...
Thanks,
Here is a link to the build.

Been a lot of long hours... now I'm ready to enjoy it some.
I'll throw mine in due to lack of participation.
I think a reduced number of entries would be good... maybe the first 10.
This would get a higher count for the actual vehicles in the running. There seems to be many polls with only 1-2 votes for each vehicle.
The Grizzly is a more civilized Detroit locker. My friend installed one in his work truck & it is not bad with respect to noise or chirping the tires.
You do have to remember it is there though.
As for the Gov-lock, I have broken a bunch of them. Junk in my opinion.
If you baby it, then you...
One thing that can contribute to this is the big singles, combined with no weight in the truck.
Your tire pressure is low enough, maybe too low though. Too high they bounce like basketballs, too low they flex & spring back.
I had a similar event with my 5 ton when it was still a tractor. The...
I just went through a case of it with very little problems.
Yes, I had a clogged tip once in a great while, but far better paint than the watered down stuff you typically get in the stores.
This paint seemed to go twice as far as typical spray cans.
A good storage tip is to keep them upside...
Used Rapco on mine without hardener & it still looks good after a year.
It does water spot, but after an hour in the sun it disappears.
Sort of weird as it looks terrible if you first wipe the water off of it.
Once the paint cures a few months it seems to stop doing this.
I would be cautious...
Thank you for the nomination. I'm #17 on the list.
It's been a lot of work to get it this far.
After building a lot of cars & pickups in the past, I have a new respect for how big, heavy & torturous it is putting a big truck together.
I always wanted one & now I'm addicted to the big trucks...
