What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I did this on my M997 ambulance recently; I know what you mean. I think I spent half the time just figuring out how to get access to all those completely hidden bolts. Taking the halfshafts out is a must, I think.

    Is this an original exhaust?

As far as I know, the deep water exhausts were only used on USMC Avengers, so they are pretty rare. I found this picture on the internet from a Marines museum in San Diego:

    Is this an original exhaust?

Those very short exhausts were for the Avenger air defense vehicles, so their turrets could rotate freely, as far as I know. Might have been used for other variants. I´m pretty sure they were not used on the ambulances; those had a special version that was longer than the regular ones.

    M997A2 Ambulance

I live only an hour from Cologne, so if you´ve got time when overhere, we can meet if you want. Then again, the first half of July, I will actually be in California. I´ve been thinking about any small parts I might need, but anything that´s still on my list seems to be heavy and huge. Your wife...

    M997A2 Ambulance

Good luck for finding that rear steps. They seem to have been demilled from all the M997s from recent auctions. I think Kascar had some, but for quite some $$$. The steps could be replicated by any competend metal shop, but are pretty complicated, so a replica would probably not turn out much...

    M997A2 Ambulance

The cables coiled up in the storage comnpartment are for an aspirator/resuscitator thas was apparently fixed inside the patient compartment. Usually, they are secured with shrink tubing at the inner end, and are not connected to the batteries, but coiled up like in your picture. If you are going...

    Fuel Sending Unit Access Panel

I´ve done the cutout with the fuel tank in place, but I recommend to drop the tank. Those fuel lines at the top of the above photo are VERY close to the body. In my case, the rightmost tube was even touching the body. I used a kind of Dremel with a depth control ring, so did cut just a fraction...

200 A alternator probably shot - but why, and what now ?

Niehoff have some very good ducumentation on their website, including a comprehensive troubleshooting guide. When my regulator behaved erratic, this really helped me.

looking for the 2-piece seat belt

Actually, this version of the safety belts is not the "old", but the newest one. In 1985, Humvees were just equipped with two-point lap belts only. Then, a few years later (I think with the introduction of the A1 series) Humvees came with three-point, self-retracting belts. Just one belt, one...

    Humvee Run Flat tyres removal

By the way: A 37" tire without runflats weighs about 52 kilogram. With a runflat, it´s about 78 kilos, so the difference can easily be determined.

    top speed

I own an M997 ambulance, and also a slantback. Both weigh about the same, around 3.2 tons, and have the same engines, trannys, etc.. The ambulance has significantly lower top speed, and especially less acceleration at higher speeds. While the slantback for overtaking a truck on the Autobahn...

    Advice Please: Planning 4L80 Conversion

The original Humvee 4L80 Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) won´t fit into this shaft end. But there are aftermarket TPS available that fit this setup. The IP shafts on original 4L80 vehicles end with kind of blade end, like a screwdriver. If you want to use an original TPS, you´d need to change...

    change of the gear ratio

Thanks very much, Tobash. And if you´re ever coming to Europe, gladly give us a shout. I think I can organise a ride in a Porsche on the Autobahn if you´re so inclined.... Actually, my family was thinking about vacations in the U.S. next year (we have relatives in Philadelphia, Boston...

    change of the gear ratio

I guess I was just plain lucky. The boss wasn´t in town, and the employee wanted some fun instead of work, I guess ;). I think they mentioned that the Humvee was ready for delivery to a customer, so it was probably a one-time opportunity.

HMMWV in Limp Mode DTC 53 4L80E Transmission

If the "trans" light stays on when the "run" switch is off (even dim), then something electrically is very wrong. I would go over the whole wiring, and check if everything is connected as it belongs, before I switch that TCM on again. Just relying on the battery disconnect doesn´t solve the...

    change of the gear ratio

Sorry to chime in so late. Yes, Morlock Motors is indeed offering an alternative hub gear. I happened to be on their yard, when the prototype was ready, and since I´m admin of a large german HMMWV forum, they were so kind to offer me a test ride. The Humvee with the changed ratio was a...

OUT AND ABOUT WITH MY HMMWV

We had a little MV meeting in the woods close to the Ruhr area in Germany this weekend. A bunch of Humvees attended, some really nice MUTTs, CUCvs, K30s, and two Dutch DAFs, one of them driven by a friend from the Netherlands: I took my M997 ambulance, and was pretty glad I could have the A/C...

    M998 MARKINGS

Interesting, please keep us updated on that. I´ve heard a few people overhere claim to have gotten a Humvee "directly from the Army", because they knew so-and-so, but I mostly took that for empty bragging. Would be interesting to learn if a direct buy is indeed possible.

    M998 MARKINGS

Sadly, there are no auctions of surplus Humvees locally in Europe. All those vehicles were shipped back to the U.S. after the end of the (first) cold war. Then, when we european MV ethusiasts buy them, they have to be shipped back over the Atlantic. A few years ago, there were rumors that...

What have you done to your HMMWV today/lately

I finally got the original A/C on my body-off restored M997 ambulance running. When I got the ambulance top, the freon lines were open, and insects had nested in them. Also, the engine-mounted compressor, the hoses and part of the wiring were missing. A very BIG Thank You to fellow Steelsoldier...
