@Dave2018: Early Humvees had brake caliper brackets which indeed blocked some of the diff cover bolts. Later Humvee have modified brake caliper brackets with a cutout to allow all diff cover bolts to come out.
So for a look inside your diff you will have to take off the brake calipers and...
Hi Marcus,
welcome from me, too. All of those sound-dampening things that you mention above will help a little bit, but I would not expect too much. If you put insulation inside the beam under the windshield for example, sound will still be transferred directly from the engine bay to the...
Sorry for reviving this older thread, but I have a somewhat related question:
There are numerous threads about unit markings, their meaning, how to uncover them, etc.
What I didn´t found (not even in the TMs): Which base colour is used for those unit markings ? It´s some kind of Tan obviously...
My M1045A2, which I have almost three years now, has the same symptoms after every startup, so seems to be normal afterglow.
However, watch this every time you start. The afterglow cycling needs to stop after one or two minutes.
I once (in deep winter) had the afterglow continue forever. Or...
Perhaps you could send the original data plate together with the Humvee to Germany. Sometimes, the guys at out test authorities (TUV) are VERY suspicious if a vehicle has only a dataplate, and no stamped VIN in the frame, and eye the dataplate very closely. When they see new rivets, they´ll...
To me it looks like the fuel return line (the metal line at the top with the Tee) was indeed accidentially connected to the vent system (the shiny black thin tube at the bottom). Thus the returning fuel is pumped not only into the air filter, but also into diffs, transmission, transfer, PS...
Of course that heavy bar is structural. Among other tasks, it´s about the only part that gives a little bit of side impact protection.
Yesterday, we had a bad Humvee accident overhere in Germany when a tiny Volkswagen Lupo impacted with its front left corner exactly into the left B-Pillar...
4L80 has a relay behind the commander´s seat that switches 12 volts to the TCM when you switch your Humvee to "Run". If you´re not getting 5 volts out of the TCM, I´d first check wether there is 12 volt input to the TCM (then again, without 12 volts, the trans check light shouldn´t work at...
That item is an "EMI filter choke" (Electromagnetic Interference). It is shown in the 4L80 troubleshooting guide in the schematic on page 138.
What I find weird is that it looks like it was cast inside the glass of a side marker light....
I just checked a few pictures of Humvees in service, and all stops looked at least mostly similiar to mine. The thicker part of the stop to the outside.
I wanted to add shackles to the outside of my airlift bumper, but to my surprise, no matter how I position the shackle, the holes won´t line up:
The bumper is original issue; it came from a cut Humvee, and I had to sandblast and repaint it. The shackles are Part No. 12342354, just like the TM...
1) There are a few subtle differences between softtop and hardtop hoods, the most noticeable being the two footloops in front of the windshield on softtops (to tie down the windshield when folded). Also, slantback hoods had armored grilles and armor stripes around the top grille. However...
One addition to this: Niehoff did actually reply to my reqest, in a very detailed manner. Awesome company ! I wanted to share their hints here:
First, the range given for field coil resistance (1.8 to 2.2 ohms) in the troubleshooting manual was meant for room temperature. The resistance rises...
Thanks for your replies, guys. That hint about the Trailworthy regulators is very interesting indeed.
My voltmeters´ leads are the original ones from the manufacturer, and are pre-compensated for. I always put the points together before the actual measurement to see if the meter shows zero. I...
I just finished a body-off resto of my A0 Humvee and did a first test drive today. During the restoration, I swapped the 60 A for a brand new 200 A alternator. The 200 A is wired for dual voltage use, according to the TMs. I also compared and rechecked all the time with my A2 slantback, which...
No, the plunger can be exchanged with the IP in place (just did this). Access is a bit tight, but it is doable.
You´ll need to modify a box wrench by grinding it down to a certain thickness (0.28 " or about 7 mm). This is shown in TM 9-2320-280-34 , Section II, Figure C-18 (about page 1239 in...
