Answer to the age old question-m35a2

So, what do you do in Montana when it's 0F out? Fire up the deuce of course! Went for a quick drive on the frontage road. Determined a personnel heater would be nice for such occasions, but the truck did awesome. I really enjoy these trucks. Nothing like having a little ground clearance! When...

G749 Starter and Generator questions-input needed

The windshield on yours is a 3A windshield, someone, somehow divided it. As you can see from these pics, the cj-2a windshield is split, with a flat panel beneath the windshield. A 3A windshield has raised panels and has a solid piece of glass

Terrifying front end shake on XM211

Thanks USMC. I was curious about that TM. Page 201 shows rebuilding the king pin bearings or trunion bearings as the TM calls them. Page 201. Rather then using a fish scale to check pre-load of the bearings they recommend using a torque wrench as the knuckle turns. Nice to have manual to look at!

Terrifying front end shake on XM211

Check the king bearings-I'm not sure on these trucks if it happens frequently, but on a big truck, bad king pin bearings will do that. Jack the front end up and grab the tire top and bottom; rock it back and forth and see how much give there is. Have a helper look and see if you have loose wheel...

G749 Starter and Generator questions-input needed

While this is an electrical thread, this video is applicable to the neat-ness of the g749. It amazes me that this truck really is water tight electrical wise! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xuHVINx6Otk that last canoe started paddling a little faster!

G749 Starter and Generator questions-input needed

thats why I'm thinking it would be neat to have a parts source to service them. What did the plate run you?

G749 Starter and Generator questions-input needed

I would suspect the parts to overhaul one to come in significantly less. As long as the fields and armature are okay the majority of serviceable parts shouldn't be too much. Famous last words. I'll go through the excercise of rebuilding one of each just for fun of it, then we'll know for sure...

G749 Starter and Generator questions-input needed

I've got some old motor manuals that show how to go through and check the components when rebuilding a starter/generator. I can scan them as I get going on this and post them. I'm thinking some day the government rebuilds will be gone and it wouldn't hurt to have the rebuild parts/part #'s-if...

G749 Starter and Generator questions-input needed

So, after screwing around with a G749 that needs a starter this past week(WE think anyhow-Thanks to USMC), I've started to wonder how readily available parts were for the starters and generators for these old beasts. I've checked a few parts sources that wholesale electrical components of this...

it looks to be civilian-cj2a is a best guess but could be a 3a. Check the data tag on the firewall to the left of the air cleaner as you are standing looking at the engine. That will say what the body aerial is and model number. Fixing it is just a matter of how much money it takes. Jeeps in my...

As my grandpa would say, the invention of 4x4 was the worst thing that happened to people who drove in adverse conditions...why? Cause then people thought they could go anywhere! Wish he was still around...I never did get his take on if the invention of the 6x6 was good or not! Mother nature has...

    Moisture in brake system

Thanks rusty stud. We serviced a fleet of buses, that were all modern(replaced on a schedule) and serviced the air dryers frequently, on a schedule. We however, when the mercury dropped to -20- -30F, always had problems with one or two. We also used to work on a lot of over the road trucks. I...

Do those purple taters have really white meat and yield well? My grandpa gave me some a number of years back and they yielded incredibly. Some were large enough to feed two families! They did keep quite as well, but you were hungry for a long time cause there was so many of them. Im curious on...
