    tap for pyro

"We might mention that some mechanics fear installing the pyrometer thermocouple in the exhaust manifold for fear the probe will break or burn off and blow into the turbocharger.....While the above scenario is scary, it is also unlikely....It just doesn’t happen with a good pyrometer." "It...

    Need some m35 Brake Help

Without measuring maybe 3", then hard. Mine came to me with no pedal. Bleed out the old fluid and adjusted the shoes. It had air near airpac and one frt wheel. Been fine since. JimK

    Need some m35 Brake Help

RE: dual brakes For a pressure test, however marking the road can help verify there are no frozen wheel cylinders, capped lines, oiled shoes....JimK p.s. Stalwart is dual, using ISO-15 mineral oil(over air), stations LF,RC,LR for the left airpac and RF,LC,RR for the right. Surely done this...

    Re-Powering The Deuce With A 5-Ton LDS-465-1A Engine

Jeff, Those LDS's w/C+D turbo would seem to be a good candidate for a pyrometer. Any engine that deviates from box stock, too. I agree with you that these can be turned up if EGT is watched. JimK

    Re-Powering The Deuce With A 5-Ton LDS-465-1A Engine

Lee, Fuel settings: LD-465-1,1C-------62 lb/hr (min) 126HP LDT-465-1C,1D--- 64 lb/hr (min) 130HP LDS-465-1--------- 80 lb/hr 170-185HP (TM-9-2320-361-10 and 68' LDS Troobleshooting Manual) The LDS uses a bigger turbo w/wastegate. I think, as you said, extra air will reduce EGT, however...

    Need some m35 Brake Help

ANY vehicle braking system can, and should, be tested. Get er' going, check the mirror, mash on the pedal hard as you can...And if you break something, well, better now than later. JimK p.s. If you can't mark the pavement try dirt

    Need some m35 Brake Help

You will need to remove the vent line before removing the master cylinder cap. I use compressed air, at 20psi, in the fitting on cap, then make the rounds (wrench for the bleeder, bottle and hose to catch the old stuff). The air pac has a bleeder screw. If the pedal is hard but low (or...

    A second FDC, why not

The problem with a FDC switching system is the main fuel adjustment nut needs to be re-adjusted each time there is a change (about 2 turns). This adjustment is critically important as adding more fuel increases boost (LDT's and LDS's) and EGT(Exhaust Gas Temp). Too much fuel can damage the...

Replacing your multifuel engine with something else?

There have been a few Stalwarts modified with the 180 Ti Perkins Phaser(6 cyl diesel). I don't know much about it. I think it was chosen because it offers a high operating RPM and is in-line(to fit in hull). The Rolls B81( straight 8 gas) runs 4000rpm/40mph so a typical low rpm diesel will cause...

How much cranking is necessary for starting?

RE: how much cranking is necessary for staring? Inspect the fuel in the filters. If it is black it is contaminated. Look for water, too. JimK

    Dual EGT gauge

This was why I installed my probe after. There were other reasons: the probe runs cooler(longer lifespan?) and can't go thru the turbine(OMG), though I feel both are very unlikely. The switching of probes is a good way to save $ and it has been done in racing for decades. The probe works on very...

    ENGINE INFORMATION PLEASE

I wanted to add to my con rod ramblin'. At very high rpm's the rod big end can go 'out of round'. Just .001-.002" will turn the bearing into a wiper. Without oil friction can spin the bearing which cuts off lube causing a rod knock. A rod knock imposes shock loads which can break the rod at...

    Engine Prelube Info....

Accumulator w/mods. The remote air tank is some tubing w/soft plugs welded in ends, exhaust clamps, air line... which boosts capacity to 3.75qts. The 2 gauges monitor diff. press after piston reaches end of stroke. It holds press fine. The static pressure changes +/-5psi with ambient air temp...

Turbo boost hits 15 psi plus

Update-I disabled the FDC and got 15+psi at ~2000rpm. IP required 2-1/6 turns (13 flats) to get back to 12psi at 2500rpm. Power output was very dramatic before turning it down. Power and boost came in earlier, and faster (lower RPMs). I may adjust the droop screw to try and fatten up the low...

    Multifuel engine life

Beware. I posted most of this in Engine Information Please thread last night. It was intended for here. I cleaned it up a bit but looks rather rambiln. David did say "Let the discussions continue....." Maximum speed (w/Maximum Payload and Towed Load) - 45MPH (page 1-17) Maximum speed...
