    Engine Prelube Info....

Scrap yard may be best. I went to local forklift dealer today. They have a small boneyard. They didn't have a old palletjack pump. I asked about a new one. Guy said, "maybe $1700-2000". I said "I meant just a pump". He said, "so did I". He gave me a lead but I figure a used one may command big...

Pyrometer install. What gaskets are needed?

I got an open center steel shim gasket at the local Mack dealer. I showed the counter man a paper imprint and he walked over to shelf and got one. $7(?). The TM shows a divided composite gasket. I called Memphis. They said they have both. I asked for a couple divided composite and got open...

    boost and pyro readings

Even under high load pistons run cool. 400-500*F. There is a lot of heat transfer via rings to cyl wall. Oil from below helps cool, as does the intake charge. The combustion flame front is MUCH higher than EGT, but the duration is very very small, a few dozen degrees of crank rotation out of...

Kenny, yes it's a M59. Bruce, he is on SS. I can't remember his handle. I told him about posting pics so maybe he'll post. JimK

    Deuce dump M342A2

Here are a couple of pics the 55' dumper neighbor Dave P. bought yesterday in Schenectady. The dumper is an old town highway vehicle. Pic location is a rest area Rt 5 near Fonda, NY. The M35A2 ran great. We had great weather and a nice 250 mile ride, mostly on quiet country roads.JimK

    boost and pyro readings

Pyrometer location is an important factor. 1200*F is too high if you have a post turbo pyrometer. When running high EGT the duration should also be considered. For max boost (or any substantial boost) the throttle needs to wide open -and- engine under a load. Boost will climb as RPM does...

Fuel pump question on my 2 1/2

RE: Re: RE: Re: Fuel pump question on my 2 1/2 It is like the heat in any hydraulic system, where the slightest hi-press leakage makes the[just heated] oil even hotter. An example - a worn vane pump...the cause of heat - friction.JimK

Fuel pump question on my 2 1/2

RE: Re: RE: Re: Fuel pump question on my 2 1/2 My tank pump silent. I figure it's bad (have not checked it). Anyways, I don't seem to have power loss, some extreem duty too. Was your power loss using WVO? Bio? JimK p.s. Help! Chad got fired and Brittney is on vacation. p.s.s the heat is...

Fuel pump question on my 2 1/2

Apparently the army dumped my deuce when a head gasket blew, using the FDC and without a turbo. As for being qualified, I'm just a wannabe. Brittney and Chad at 'Jiffy Lube' tell me what's best. _______________ JimK driving the worlds slowest m-35, 'Curly'

Fuel pump question on my 2 1/2

RE: Re: Fuel pump question on my 2 1/2 Yup, turn IP fuel screw's nut counter clock (looking towards back of vehicle) to reduce fuel del. My LD was a super smoker with FDC working. I put a D turbo and had to back of 8 flats(1-1/3 turn). Still got more power, so prob should have had it backed off...

    license plate location

a magnetic dealer plate base would let you move plate around, or use it when you want, or avoid drilling holes.... As I pointed out B/4, NY state made an exception for the GTO. They and let me use a historical registration 3 years before it was eligible. I drove to Albany, 150 miles one way...

    leaking flame starter

RE: Re: RE: leaking flame starter Mine was leaking too.I tried to refurb the self align compression ferrule(olive in the UK) and broke it. I tried a std 3/16 compression ferrule. It cocked on the tube and leaked worse. I put a tube sleeve inside and used a new ferrule. That solved the problem...

    Low air buzzer bother you?

When working in the garge/yard/cab I have been known to bypass even my saftey belt gear.JimK p.s. Last week I hammered on something, probably a screw driver, without gloves, eye OR even hearing protection.

    license plate location

NY state has a 'historical' plate. Vehicles have to be 25 years or older. There are restrictions. Looking at the form now they are,"...used for participation in club activities, exhibits, tours, parades, occasional transportation and similar uses ,but is not for general used for daily...

    Low air buzzer bother you?

RE: it Perhaps a potentiometer(rheostat) would provide some volume control(?). Control is nice when doing service or for moving about the yard/garage. JimK

    Low air buzzer bother you?

RE: it Commercial big rig(CDL)trucks are required to have low air buzzers. Level II and III inspections (NYSDOT roadside...)do check it. Private use vehicles -may- not be required. I use a simple toggle switch to shut it off and use it during startup. The oil pressure gauge 'event' seems more...

Correct oil to use for a White 'D' Turbo engine

RE: Tractor Supply SAE 30 Standard Non Detergent Oil Well it is the best crankcase oil to burn.Being new and detergent (and additive) free usually means less ash (an abrasive). I won't burn it but many do. I worry about carbon deposits(valves + turbine). You could use it in a less critical...

Correct oil to use for a White 'D' Turbo engine

The LDS troobleshooting manual (avail in SS resources area) states: ambient temp- SAE 30(MIL-L-2104)use for +20*F to +115*F, SAE 10(MIL-L-2104) for -10*F to +50*F, and Arctic (MIL-O-12095) for -65*F to +20*F. Problem is what to use when there is overlap, say, the day starts out at 10*F then...
