Removing / Dropping the Fuel Tank on a M1165A1 ECV

This HMMWV sat in the yard without a gas cap. To be thorough I pulled the tank to clean everything out Yeah the plug was a pain to get out even with an empty tank. I found an old plug inside the tank. I understood why it was in there after I realized the easiest way to get the old, decrepit...

60 Minutes has a story of military vehicle accidents. Tonight NOW west coast.

My immediate though when seeing that disaster of a test is that if I wanted to keep one of these things and drive it that the prudent thing to do would be to install a full welded safety cage. MVTR has a 5 point harness. These things should too if you are really using it.

Removing / Dropping the Fuel Tank on a M1165A1 ECV

I respect your expertise on the subject. I tried it every which way and the back of the tank kept getting hung up on the diff yoke. The tank had 10 gallons of fuel in it. Maybe that was the issue. I supported it with a jack but the weight may have prevented the maneuverability needed. (I didnt...

60 Minutes has a story of military vehicle accidents. Tonight NOW west coast.

The video rollover where the thing disintegrates is at 45mph. This is all new to me but just a bit of research shows that its not that hard to roll a HMMWV. High center of gravity. I think more people need to be fully aware of what they are buying and driving. Its a cool vehicle but has 1960's...

M1084A1 M1084 M977 MHC Grove Material Handling Crane Troubleshooting Problems

Its possible. Ill check. One manual details a EEPROM programming unit with a socket. Usually EEPROMS get pulled out and inserted into a EEPROM programmer but that was really old school tech. Maybe this updated board doesnt have a eeprom and the fault code was never updated. Its memory was just...

Removing / Dropping the Fuel Tank on a M1165A1 ECV

The reason to disconnect the hard lines is shown in the OP photos. The hard lines cross over the top of the transfer case. To a degree where they cannot just be pushed aside. Not without mangling them. My tank is not coming down without disconnecting the lines at the top of the tank. On this...

Removing / Dropping the Fuel Tank on a M1165A1 ECV

Looks like I misread the instructions. It does say to disconnect the hard lines from the top of the tank. I was reluctant to mess with the flares since my line wrenches did not fit over 2 of them but luckily standard open end wrench works fine. They are not tight like brake lines.

Removing / Dropping the Fuel Tank on a M1165A1 ECV

I searched, watched youtube videos, and went through the TMs. The M998 tank removal procedure does not work on a M1165A1 because the tank uses 4 steel hardlines for fuel and vent. These lines crossover the top part of the transfer case and get hung up on the transfer case if one tries to drop...

M1084A1 M1084 M977 MHC Grove Material Handling Crane Troubleshooting Problems

My LMI shows an error code of E57. DS50 LMI manual error description: I dont see the EEPROM on the main board and dont see a place where it would mount. Not sure if its missing or just memory wiped. It either case i still dont see it on the DS50 main board. The DS50 manual I found shows a...

M1084A1 M1084 M977 MHC Grove Material Handling Crane Troubleshooting Problems

There is an Alarm light on the Boom Overload Box. The following is info I learned from my research on this. The name for the load overload system used to be PAT and is currently LMI. For the past three decades PAT Systems have been installed in cranes around the world. Through a series of...

M1084A1 M1084 M977 MHC Grove Material Handling Crane Troubleshooting Problems

I will take another look. I looked for pins and locks before I started working on it. In this case highly unlikely it is a pin. I got the crane to swing 60 degrees but it took several tries like it was binding up or something was holding it. The movement was slow and inconsistent. I couldnt...
