Actually the 931A2 is lighter than 20k and I would say a older 5 ton with the multi fuel and singles might be even lighter. The 809 series are some of the heaviest.

The military actually made air ride rear 939's and profo has air bags up front. I am going all air ride with my XLWB 932A2. I am doing front, rear, cab, seats, and trailer already has rear air ride, and air ride king pin.

Why not start with a 931A2? The 8.3L Cummins is the big brother to the 5.9L and almost all of the upgrades are the same. Good P-pump and bigger turbo, add an intercooler and rock out.

I have the same seats and they were also used in all M939P2 uparmored trucks, and the ROPS trucks (Franken truck).

Have looked at the extra link option on the 5 ton before and if memory serves, which it rarely does, there's something in the way. But you will need to add a panhard rod so actually becomes 5 link

Four link will keep the articulation and air bags will make the ride much better not sure how much space would be needed between the frame and the tire but probably about 2 inches minimum to avoid rubbing in off camber situations and you need to pick a different tire either 395's or 16.00's the...
Look up tachymeter and read the back of your speedometer to see what goes where speedometer cable in one and tachometer in the other.

Short answer yes.
Longer wheelbase rides better, also why not? He evidently wants to. I beg to differ on which is easier running a couple of air lines and a trailer plug or drilling 20 big holes in the frame and moving a quarter ton of steel into just the right spot to line up those holes and...
The only thing that might give you problems is the transmission is longer but I think you can squeeze it in by just shortening the drive shaft.

Just love how many people think these trucks are weak in some way, I have guys pulling 120,000 lbs GCVW day in and out, log trucks so at least half of the weight is on the tractor. And as posted the wrecker runs around 40k with all the tools on it. Oh bit wait that's all on the back! Well they...
Is the 20' include the section over the cab? The best truck to start with will be a ISO bed truck 923 or 927 if you want 20' on the floor.

Jim if you want come over and compare a 923 to a 927 I have both and welcome you to come look and measure. I also have a ISO 927 and ISO 923 which are designed to carry a sea cargo container or ISO container.

Okay so I am the proud owner of a few 927/8 and I see a couple of things I would probably do. First run 395's for tires they are 46" tall and look mean if you ask me. The bed is 20' long so if you shift it forward to the back of the cab you will not get any real over hang off the back of the...
