There is a thread on here about this already, and there is plusses and negatives to both types both need covers and proper maintenance. I will eventually have all synthetic ropes on my wrecker but you need to look at what you will be doing with your truck.

Can't see your picture but everything I can find says they were converted gasser GMC motors.
Okay got the scan to come up so I could read the article and this one says they aren't the same.
So let's look at a few things, we know the heads will be different but from what I am reading from guys...
Yeah it is about 3" thick but it is panels not sprayed in, with aluminium square tube in the upper layer a wood in between the panels on the lower layer.

I don't recommend 15w40 but if that's the way you want to go i would use a non synthetic rottela. I use 10wt hydraulic oil that has Alison approval on the bucket.

No laod and on dirt no biggie disengaged front end even better. I have backed several hundred up on the step of a stepdeck trailer without modified switches, and never broken one. But before you do try yours do take a few minutes and crawl under and check for cracks in the housing I have seen...
Okay stop take a breath, now start by checking you gladhands you have been at a show and people are stupid, they will do things to a military truck that would get them arrested if they did them to a regular show car.

Pretty sure it is the heat, like Simp said the dex type fluids don't like temps over 180 and these trucks were designed to use the 10wt and normal temperature of 210 or more which is fine on 10wt or most hydraulic/ transmission oil. What everyone needs to remember that these trucks were designed...
You are the one with a attitude and not able to read, those are listed as new and not being NOS as the old is a bad thing when dealing with rubber.
Simp doesn't need one you do, so shut-up and order one yourself.

Here's the biggest reason to stick with what you have, half of the people I have talked to about changing thier 5 ton out to the tes 295 have had the transmission fail after changing. They have enough money that they said they were going to do it anyway and they had to replace the transmission...
Thanks Simp and it is not 15w40 that was used in 99% of these trucks it is 10wt engine oil that they were all built with. The 15w40 was a change in the manual and didn't get done to most of these trucks. RSMS even used 10wt whe they were doing complete rebuids up through 2013.
