Radioactive oils, grease, and god help us, the reflective dials on the engine cluster in the trucks....that is why the engine clusters are missing at many locations. Dang! I will die from wearing my watch for forty years. go figure. there is no hope in finding a rational explanation.
An often over looked problem is the fact the control panel is grounded. If the ground is failing, the gauges deliver no or unreliable indications. Dismount the control box from the machine. Clean all connections including the ground wire and screw connection on the bottom of the box. Check for...
I have been running up to a 50-50 split of diesel and used cooking old for three years in several of my M1028s. I have more than 20-25,000 miles on any one of the trucks during the period. We've not have any sort of problem using the oil. In fact, we ran almost 200 gallons through one of the...
One needs an EUC for 'naked' trailers. However, if the trailer has a gen-set on it, you do not need an EUC. It is almost simple but still fails the logic test.
I cut waste oil no more than 50-50 when the nights remain above 50 F. Otherwise, I run 75-25 petrol to waste oil. Careful with the thinners. In addition to the seals and leaks, the stuff washes down the cylinder walls far to much. I want all the lube there I can get. The waste oil runs quieter...
No one has mentioned this but check the oil. If it is low or the oil pump is failing, there will not always be sufficient oil to run the lifters and the timing will be off.
We have four M1028s on the farm and all had bent drive shafts. We resleeved, replaced universials, primed, painted, and balanced all of them. We could not be happier with the results. Due to the trannys and gearing, these driveshafts spend lots of time at higher RPMs and a half-baked driveshaft...
I bought several of those seats. I've not gotten around to installing them in the 818 but they are working great in the M1028. I mounted them on a swivel base in the CUCV. Post some photos of the Warn install on the 818. I have one as well. I've been debating to mount on the front or back. Let...
A fun way is to call me and we can ride up together in a Deuce and pull it to your place...no muss...no fuss...Throw me the fuel you would have spent in your SUV for the trip. The only problem with taking the Deuce is that it is prone to stop at Bar-b-que joints.
Here is a solution that you may not have considered. This old workhorse has served me for over 6-years and it has carried everything imaginable and safely.

In Virginia, I run agricultural plates. These are not farm use tags. Unlike the farm use tags, the ag plates require an inspection but not a CDL if driven to move your own goods and equipment. However, there is a 150 mile limitation from any one of a farmer's leased or owned properties. No out...
Just go buy an M101A2 trailer. They are selling most weeks on GL in excellent condition with complete tarps and bows between $200 -$300. AND, finding one with excellent 16 X 85 X 235 tires is not difficult.
The stuff gells at 40 F and one must watch how well seals and the like hold up in different applications. The Onan runs a bit "quieter" on the waste veggie oil when I tested the stuff on it. I've not had the chance to run our 10Kws on straight veggie oil as we mostly use them in the dead of...
The last one on the market three years ago out of Ft Bragg went for over $75,000. No one has ever heard of it since. I assume it was not purchase by a SS.
I bid on it. Placed a bid of $25,050 on Tuesday and refused to look again until after the sale had concluded. Otherwise, I ran the risk of...
It is a simple gig for GL. Fail a small fraction of payments each week, collect the 25% penalty, and who is the wiser. When they did it to me, I lost a sale of $1500, missed final bidding on a current auction, and were held hostage over a previously paid large sale of two trucks because I did...
A friend of mine owns a local rock quarry. He left early on a Friday to open up their Florida house. His wife closed up the business at the end of the day and went to her car to drive to the airport and meet my buddy in FL. Her battery was dead and everyone had left for the day. She fished...
You need to also be aware of any ammo in your truck. NONE allowed...period. No spent casings...nothing. The dogs will sniff them out and you are in trouble.
