Not with a truck - but about 8 years back I bought some surplus electronic equipment from GL. I believe it was a pallet load of AN/GRA-39 radio control set residue. They were pretty shot, I think out of the lot of 15 of them, I managed to build 2 working one out of the lot, which I promptly...
Not sure how laws are written in Florida, however in most places the law is there, not to prevent people from having sound devices and light bars, but to prevent people from impersonating a law enforcement officer, or to prevent people from thinking that you represent same. You could mount one...
I believe the M715 series uses the 3/4" pins, though they need special feet for their weird bumper/shackle setup.
M880 series uses 1" as well, requires special adapters underneath the front bumper assy.
Pics of each adapter:
Good tip.
Is there any cure for aluminum/magnesium corrosion that has already started? Something you can put on the corrosion to remove or at least stop it?
Hey Tim,
Thanks for all the great tech info! However, some of that gear I haven't really thought of incorporating into this build. I see no need for VIC-1/3/4/5 communications in this rig, if this were a crew setup where there was a driver up front and someone in the back, maybe. But this is...
Went to Colemans Surplus on Friday, out in the 17 degree weather walking on crusty ice over 4" of loose snow. Very cold.
Worth the trip though, in addition to some other things, I found these lonely panels that came out of a telegraph relay shelter there, that had been attacked by a...
Looking for someone who can make brass stencils in small sizes (like 1" tall letters). Yes I know you can get sets of individual letters in brass all over the place. Looking for someone to make reusable brass stencils with entire lines or multiple lines. Imagine you had to stencil multiple...
If you want them to look new and original, depends on how much work you want to do. But if you want to go all out, here's what would restore it.
Pressure wash the entire crate. It will remove all markings, and make the wood look "new". Let dry. Then lightly sand the entire crate to fix any...
Pressure wash would do it, but might take off the lettering underneath too. Same for sanding. Same for paint stripper. Any way you do it, I think those markings are lost.
This happens a lot more than you think to our jeeps. We get something that looks good, and we think "it doesn't need much". Then the magnifying glass comes out and you find all sorts of Bubba-mods that were done over the years. This is especially common with CJs.
Looks good as a resto-mod...
I hate that term rare - it gets used and thrown around more than a midget whore. Just because something is old doesn't make it rare. And if something is indeed rare, it still doesn't equate to more value. Thomas Jefferson's boogers are rare, not like anyone is going to pay a lot for them.
I have this 6th sense as well - with OD green, black crinkle, and navy gray radio as well. I usually get to a show, walk quickly around everything, and if a "veteran" radio is on the table I usually do like a double-take and kind of jughandle on back to see what it was. Sometimes it's a false...
