It has been said these trucks are herd animals. See my signature. Somehow ended up with four.
M1010plowboy is way worse than me though. When the lady of the house starts complaining, I break out pictures of his herd and tell her it could be worse.
I pulled the master cylinder off of my truck today and it looked great except for some pitting about 2 inches inside the bore in one place. Enough to cause internal leakage and too much to hone out, so a new master cylinder it is. I'll keep the old master cylinders for the day when it is cheaper...
Good job on digging into those TM's! Welcome to the forum! No ignorance on your part. I think it is safe to say that we are all learning things about these trucks.
I'd like to see some pictures of your truck and the engine/transmission combo when you have a chance.
I am getting ready to either buy a new master cylinder or do a rebuild. Will know for sure what I am going to do tomorrow when I pull one more master cylinder.
Check this out and you can see what I am thinking.

Will do. I believe that check valve is held in place on the spring by that little tab that is sticking out. Should be as simple is bending the tab and taking it off.
We'll see here soon.
Ok. I believe I have the master cylinder mystery figured out.
Here is the G749 master cylinder again.
Here is the M35 master cylinder.
Here is the rebuild kit.
The only difference is the filler pipe, which we would remove from our original and install on the M35 master cylinder, and the...
I just got off the phone with Memphis after noticing that the master cylinder they sell for the M35 is the same as what they are selling for the M135. The man I spoke with said that they have used the same master cylinders on both trucks for years and he has never heard of or seen any issues...
I have been looking at master cylinders and the differences between M135 master cylinders and M35s are the residual check valve inside??? So if we take out the residual check valve, should we be able to use the M35 master cylinder? They look identical on the outside and all Bob Kettler's Tech...
Thank you. I am throwing out an idea just in case plowboy or someone else beats me to dis assembly of both units. I plan to find out here soon and will of course have pictures. The external appears identical except for the length, valve on the back and a few fittings. With being able to use the...
I'm getting ready for and planning an airpak rebuild in the very near future. I have some old M809 series airpaks and have pulled the power piston out of them to use as referenced here.

Then I remembered that M1010plowboy...
I would like to have it a little more quiet. For now the hollow muffler will have to do until plowboy gets the muffler build figured out.
If it turns out the mufflers are to expensive to ship south of the border, maybe his muffler man would be interested in selling prints on how to do it?
Stop pretending like I am the only one who tries this from time to time. :D
The real story is... he is a very good friend of mine that I have known since we were kids. He has helped me work on the truck a few times and saw me out testing it after knowing I had been having problems...
I don't think that would cause your coil to overheat. My manual (for the M135) shows that those are tied into the governor. Both lines come from the carburetor/governor and run around the back of the engine, then hook to the distributor.
Possibly cause a vacuum leak?? I'm not sure though.
