I'd be glad to talk you through the process whenever you are ready. I have some good pictures of how to do it in the carburetor TM. I'll try to get that posted up soon.
I went out to tune the carburetor this evening and my Tach/dwell meter decided not to work, so now I am back in a holding...
Has your temp gauge always read low like in your first video? My gauge reads just like that if not just a little higher, but when I install a civilian gauge, I am between 190 and 205. I remember the temp gauges in the vehicles I drove in the Marines always read low unless something was burning...
My carburetor is rebuilt. I had to improvise on a couple of seals but it turned out nicely. For the adjustment screws, I had to use rubber grommets and the seal between the bowl and base I used an o ring of similar diameter and thickness as the old brittle seal.
The carburetor was mounted on...
This is not my truck, but a friend of mine sent me the picture of this G749 fighting fires in the western part of the country right now. Neat to see them still in use!
I got it at Sherwin Williams after reading about the ineffective modern day carburetor cleaner and what other people are using on some hotrod forums. This was one of the most highly recommended things to use.
I was using the spray cans at first. Completely worthless for anything except burning...
Quieter is part of the goal. Lower RPMs, maybe a little more power on hills. I don't plan on getting wild with it or exceeding speeds of 50-55 mph. Would just like to see what it would do with a different engine and transmission. I'm hoping to use the same transfer case so I don't loose the 6x6...
I keep coming up with more projects than I probably have time or money for. I am seriously considering the 366 V8 engine swap into this parts truck.

Meanwhile, the carburetor rebuild is coming along nice and the leaking wheel cylinder has been fixed.
That is really neat. My kids love the trucks I have. If they even hear one start, they come running out of the house so they don't miss a ride or something. My wife was not too happy with my trucks until she saw how much the kids liked them. Then she made the mistake of riding along and now...
Finally got around to retrieving my last parts truck. I am guessing that the engine will need rebuilt since the manifolds have been off of it for many years. Part of me cannot decide if I want to turn it into parts or not. It is really straight, but would be a lot of work to put back original...
I may be interested in 2 or 3 mufflers if it is cost effective to have them built and shipped south of your border.
I have a good original muffler (currently on my truck) and a hollow shell without an end on it. Been meaning to get that end welded on the hollow one so I can test the two. Life...
Here is a thread from a while back that discussed these transmissions.

I have changed mine over to a Hytran equivalent and noticed smoother shifting after doing so. Mine only shifts very hard when going from 2nd to 3rd in low...
I found the thread where you found the part number that is not any good. Maybe send a PM to the person who posted it and see where they got it from. That could just be the part number that is used by who sold it and not really the number from National Oil Seal. I'll keep searching though to see...
I am starting another carburetor rebuild using the TM. I scanned the Holley 885 FFG Specifications and will scan the rest as I go along to post up for all of us.
Does this PDF show up OK for everyone?
Brake fluid draining out of the drums would be an obvious sign of leaking wheel cylinders. I think it would be almost impossible to know for sure about anything else without taking the hubs off.
Look over in the TM section and browse through the TM on these trucks that you can download for...
Any military truck will be expensive to own. I have friends that have M35A2, M35A3, M818, M923, etc., and they will tell you the same.
I just really like the looks of the M135/M211's. Check out the parts list in the stickies and you can get an idea on parts availability. Most everything is easy...
