Oil topics are pretty heated in every forum-you should see the diesel VW vwvortex site- its like religion! My advice is to just use a quality 15w40 add in some additive of your choice, zinc is always preferred and keep it fresh- these engines have one sweet oil drain so no reason not to dump the...
next up: COOLANT and not to use modern OAT or HOAT acid coolant in our iron blocks :) Green old school is good, any other color is a type of Hybrid Organic Acid that will attack seals and hoses- I know all to well as I thought I was a smart guy swapping my old Toyota over to this amazing new...
Excellent info everyone, seems like this entire site is on top and one step ahead. Yes they removed zinc out of oil a decade ago, one can flick a quart of oil on the shelf and if you here a metallic ring its good, no ring its zinc free and zinc is what protects on cold startups and also at...
Todays ULSD is very "dry" almost like a solvent and even evaporates off my concrete floor- a far cry from 500 PPM low sulfur diesel and not even remotely the same fuel as High sulfur of Pre 1990
I have a huge family and friend diesel mechanic friend base ranging from screaming jimmy mechanics of...
that's the exact yard I picked my 803A up at- now I know why they were "under the impression" of me just putting the generator in the back of my pickup and leaving the trailer ;)
I am leaning towards making this a fuel trailer- mounting a old 500G home heating oil tank onto it.
I acquired one of these neat trailers with my MEP803A question is now what to do with it? I am open to ideas as I only have 2 thoughts

1. be super boring and just Sell it
2. Use it as a Fuel trailer and Sell the tires...
My customer who had a 802A in the back of his truck (and the reason I now own a 803a) lives east of Cougar WA off grid cabin up on curly creek- He is not a member here though. He keeps the 802 in one of his older pickups as he cannot leave it at the cabin due to theft
probably swapping them out for the new AMMPS Cummins units. Wonder when they started shipping old stuff back? when my father was in the service they left everything- heck they pushed willies jeeps overboard back in the day.
My 803 was 1,000 miles away so I picked up a adjustable pintle and flipped it. pulled like a dream at 75MPH
I will measure mine this weekend if no one responds
that's a 803A :) its sagging for sure, even with its 2" leveling kit add a leaf- 1220LB (truck scale empty vs loaded) the well pump is a 2HP pump 100' away. 80% was startup but then it held at 50% while pumping doing a normal simulated power outage load. I got lots of crusty soot all over the...
yes, I also plan to sell the HMMWV tires and replace them with some stock wheels that are plentiful on craigslist as kids raise there duramax trucks :)
Sweet looking unit, your right the 802's only come up here and there- I also plan to snag one for my fathers place. I just test ran my house on...
I chipped up a lot of the carc paint when pulling the back panel off to fix a dent (actually a hole punched threw the rear vents into the fuel tank). I found out the trailers these units are on are built just down the road from my work :) I plan to drop by to see if they can modify my trailer...
you pick up one of the tan units of the gov planet Lakewood, Washington auction last week? I almost bid on a one but was busy at work. Do what I did drain all the fuel, new filters (see link) and prime. Post up some picts! :)...
