I've bought stuff from this outfit before. Everything I ever got was in excellent condition and WAY less expensive than new: https://www.ebay.com/itm/HUBBELL-50A-250V-3-4-Wire-TWIST-LOCK-PLUG-PAIRS-CS-8365L-CS-8364L-LOT-OF-4/132878810938?hash=item1ef031bf3a:g:FZYAAOSwx2BcwjzZ

I'm no diesel mechanic either, but have been hanging around this forum since just before I bought my 803 and 802 in early 2017 absorbing knowledge. You will get a MAJOR education on the 803A here.....if you read. Focus on your TMs first, then the filters and spare parts. In the TM section pay...
Green Mountain part number for filter is 51515: https://greenmountaingenerators.com/product/mep002a-mep003a-oil-filter-for-spin-on-conversion-use-only/ This MIGHT be the Wix part number. Wix 51515 is listed here: http://wixfilters.com/Lookup/Competitor.aspx?PartNo=51515
The putty like substance may be your well nut failing. I've read the JP-8 used in these generators is rough on the well nut. I replaced both of mine in my 802 - see picture. There are 2 ways to replace the well nut...
Search the Technical Manual section for your machine and download them all. Read the Operator's Manual up front to understand the gauges and such. Check Daybreak's Sticky (above) for maintenance filters. Mine has been a lot of fun.
OK, Daybreak's Sticky is not above individual threads...
I don't own one, but Guy's manuals will be useful to you: https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?169069-All-the-manuals-needed-to-work-on-the-MEP-805A-30-KW-Generator ...
Here's what I did for an M116A3 using the same wheel/tire as the M1101. https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?181242-M116A3-with-2000-GMC-1-Ton-Van-Wheels&highlight=
Before and after pics of those same wheels on an M1101:
Did you close the AC CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER Switch to get power on the lugs?
For 110 outlet did you check the ground fault interrupter below the fault lights and the circuit breaker inside the control panel?
Might should post some of the known history of this machine, too.
If Kris goes with this transformer - https://www.automationdirect.com/adc/shopping/catalog/power_products_(electrical)/transformers/1-phase_open_core_industrial_control_transformers/240x480_vac_to_120x240_vac/sp100mqmj - should he buy 2 in order to have a spare (they are pretty cheap).....and/or...
You and Guy are the big dogs on this mission. I'm just trying to help with procurement.....and getting more familiar with these TMs. We still need some electrical knowledge....
Is it time to fill in the blanks in post #43?? There should be something out there that can successfully replace this transformer. We need to get an electrical guru involved.....
I tried to track components down of the 006 exciter when Chainbreaker first reported the find and could not differentiate the transformer or any other contents. Hmmm, might should look in the TM for the 006 and cross reference contents to the 004, compare transformer NSN and go from there. I...
Another approach for this transformer.....5950-00-600-0840

VERY hard to find parts for old military equipment. And when they have the part you (or at least I...) cannot afford it!!!
I've been searching and can't find squat. However, you can pop an email to these guys......http://www.precisionelect.com/styles_cap.htm
Guy found that it's a current...
Closest thing I found was this patio table/chair cover: https://classicaccessories.com/ravenna-table-set-covers-medium-rectangular-oval-tables-and-6-standard-chairs-88-l-58-w-23-h
It's about 2 feet too long, 2 feet too wide, and a foot too short. End result would be good coverage of an 803...
I calibrated the gauges and use the per cent rated current. Agree, not particularly accurate but close enough. And I don't run above 100% for very long....more a check of smoke above 100% to compare to my 95% running. I run it for hours at or about 95%. My stove eyes / oven usually hit 93%...
Any more oil consumption? I've been putting time on mine at around 95% load. No smoke at 80% but it gets progressively worse at 95%, 105%, 110%. The dark smoke comes above 100% load. I'd really like for it to run clean at 95% and stop the oil consumption. I'll check oil tomorrow to see what...
