Put expanded metal over that section into the bumper same as center ??? Both sides to keep it balanced??
Then what you use to cover the remaining of old light hole..... would be hidden more and you dont have to be as concerned about Fugly work.
keep water out? wonder if you could make a flap...
hmmm... maybe Disconnect the alternator and charge fully the batts individualy. Drive it with both sides (28v/12v) disconnected long enough to see if problem repeats? If things work fine then... it could be voltage regulator going out???
hmmm... another experement maybe is to bypass the (if...
If it were not for the added height issue.... would agree that pivoting subframe is best. Agree also on captured spring needs fairly rigid box.. hence the suggestion to mods to the sub chassis little more. Other way's this has been compensated for is adding more spring mounts. Numerous of...
nice set ups. Yes emergency "siren" is regulated to Emergency service vehicles; as it should be. I used the wrong word. there are other tones in the PA that are legal, particularly when they are momentary bleeped like a horn is used.
Wish I could find switch board like that in the price...
Builder left you in good position to move forward.
Sounds like you do know this type truck with a box was designed for the military using captured spring mounts. (M1079) This truck is a semi clone of the Steyr 12M18 and they too used captured springs to mount their command boxes.
IMHO it...
got similar idea in mind.... using PA system for horn. I can speak (yell) right at them or use the Emergency service chirp chirp / siren . Ended up with two PA actually... thinking truck horn will trigger one set to make the chirp siren thing go off. Other one set for PA and wear a PTT mic lol.
instead or addition too J hook.... make whole thing from angle iron?? trim off one section where the Fork ends up. Would think it would add strength by increasing foot print.
This is why am planning 3 winches. 18k 24v military units with a bunch of snatch blocks. One rear, one front . Third one on a huge receiver (to match FMTV helicopter lift behind cab.) and sit in a place that if rig flops on side it can be accessed and slipped into place on the exposed...
one step forward..... two steps backward..... ain't that how it always goes?
PS- air horns are tools. Use wisely. Loud sharp noise like air horns (esp. when used irresponsibly) DO damage hearing of children and elderly. DO trigger PTSD
look forward to pics of final working model with cab up and the lock bar in place. GREAT IDEA.
have braced before with long 2x4 and have it slide right out under dropping hydrualics, just missing crushing me. That was a Truck Bed Tilt box. All the 2x4 did was give me early warning that the...
not sure the full story.... seems that the older lever style switch the ground was thru the mounting bolts. On the new push button there was either not a seperate ground bolt until a second generation.... or there was one all along, but soldier/mechanic skipped using it thinking since the lever...
@Keith Knight ... does your light switch have a ground wire on it? Updated push button ones do. The non grounded as Ronmar mentions had problems... including a few fires.... traced back to the light switch.
FL to AL. .. Matters where to where lol. Miami to Huntsville is still nearly 15-16 hours 865-ish miles in an LMTV...... yet Graceville FL to Dothan AL is 25-ish miles and 40ish min in an LMTV. Granted... Neither is like driving to Alaska yet....
mount..... just need better pics to really offer advice.
Looks from these small amount of info the builder copied the cargo bed design. Has an Aluminum C channel on bottom that bolts to truck chassis. Not sure if it is bolted same way as bed with plates or what.
Anyway..... if he blocks up...
Have thought about old rims too and cut lot of sidewall out of an old tires and screw them to the rim just to not sink in dirt or to NOT cut up cement floor (no garage, much less a floor at my place though).... or try to attach cut up tire to them in a tire chain like manner
another idea of...
