Blue *ss cold this weekend so I fired up the shop heater and worked on my bed sides, getting the stakes out of them. Both sides the stake pockets were rusted bad on the rear pocket and the front pocket was starting to get that way. Lots of chipping and soaking to get them out. I will need to...
Took old Red out for a snow spin today. We had a few inches with a crust of ice over the weekend. Stayed off the treated roads.
It was 29 out, after 2 cranks I tried the flame starting aid and it fired right up. Proceeded to play in my cluttered back yard for a while.
Pulled dash, didn't see anything obvious. I think the spark was from what looks to be a old chewed on section of the Oil pressure wire. It was slightly bare. Taped it up.
Cleaned all connections again from battery forward and I have power again. Oddly none of the connections were corroded, only...
So oddly I have 24v up to the panel and to the heater switch. If I activate the low/hi on the heater switch then all voltage drops off.
Started pulling off the dash to see if I can find anything but maybe the issues isn't there.
I guess I need to look at the starter relay terminal A as the power to the heater switch feeds from that line. Unless the circuit breaker tripped on that line.
I have power to the solenoid but didn't check the relay.
Easy way to pull the dash? Looks like bolts on each end, and then around the steering column? I tried to peer up under the dash but I can't contort enough.
Main power feed comes in to the master switch? I checked the starter lead and I have 24v there. Traced the large wiring bundle but didn't...
Took 1/2 day off and finished up the right front axle boot and regreased everything. This side went much smoother, I'm learning!
Went to start the truck and it cranked 1 time and nothing. Checked all the battery connections, no go. Then I cleaned up the starter connection and bam I had power...
Seen some pulling pictures where they had stacks of engines outside of the shop. One would blow and they would just drop in another one. I guess surplus engines were cheap.
Find got some time and warmer weather (35 and rain) yesterday to tackle the reinstall of the front hub boots. Took about 4 hours to do 1 side. Needed to warm my hands several times and the hub was complaining about sliding over the pinion shafts. It popped right off, but it was a stubborn 2...
My son redid the seat foam for me so I reinstalled that. With the new shock, me making motor noises and bouncing up and down, it seemed to work OK. Road test will have to be after I get the front hubs back together.
Thinking about rims and such, is there a common cross over to other trucks that match up to the pattern we have? Seems we are stuck on 20's and limited tire choices.
