    Here is the girl. :-)

Law, particularly common law, is all about precedent. If you have a land grant from a country older than the USA, then you are in the USA exactly as much as you want to be. The USA can either peaceably coexist with you or can choose to go to war with you and forcibly annex you, but it is not...

    New to the MEP family!

Triple Jim mostly covers it: If you were really serious about getting rated power at 50 Hz out of one of these, you would almost certainly have to do something to get more exciter current, which is kind of hard with this gen head design. As for getting the engine to govern speed properly at...

    802A Exhaust questions

I started to walk out to get your picture tonight and realized it's a bit harsher than I'd thought: dark, 5 F, not calm, and about a foot of snow around the generator. I declared a strategic advance to the rear and will reengage when the environment is more favorable.

    802A Exhaust questions

After doing a little quick math I decided that 1" ID was plenty big enough for a 16 HP diesel engine, my solution was to stick a small tractor muffler for something like a 20HP Kubota in the 1-1/4" elbow with a stack flapper on top when running my MEP-002A. The muffler slides out and lays down...

    My Abandoned M715

Several of the Pratchett books featuring Death (and the Death of Rats) have been illustrated, or scenes from them have been put into calendars and art books. I picked that example (from somebody's t-shirt apparently) because it had better composition and showed the Death of Rats by himself...

    My first Generator MEP002A

Yeah, I went the other way, and got a MEP-701A for the second (backup to the backup) set because of the better portability.

M4 Sherman Tank parts question... pictures inside

Whoever buys it, please, please service the tach and speedometer before you put it in your tank (presuming you do put it in a tank you plan to move at some point). I guarantee (from experience with much newer ones) that the 70+ year old grease and oil in there isn't going to do the job.

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

I'd also tend toward a newish SUV over a retired MV. Probably the only MVs that would be both sufficiently reliable and fast enough on the road would be CUCV IIs, and they're rather rare. I'd pick a cousin to a good hunting truck: something like a Toyota 4runner or Dodge Ramcharger. If it's...

Disconnecting Battery of MEP-002A or MEP-003A While Running: Damage?

True. You basically trade off higher heat load on the stator for higher voltage in the windings. If your concern is overheating the stator then (see Ducati) then you want series, if your concern is the quality of the enamel on the windings, then you want shunt. I was just thinking that, given...

    Prices finally dropping.. phew!

So wide! And not legal on the road, so you have to trailer it to the trail, which it is too wide for... Yeah, I'm thinking $500 is about right as well...

    MEP-802A and MEP-803A fuel consumption

I'll get that edit done and put it up. It's a word docx just for ease of layout.

Disconnecting Battery of MEP-002A or MEP-003A While Running: Damage?

Is this a shunt or series design? I'm guessing you went with series and MOSFET?

Replace or Re-use the Connecting rod bolts

The only gotcha I'd add to using new rod bolts is to is either a) make sure that you source your new bolts from a source known (not just reputed - everybody offshores these days or has flirted with it in the past) to have good QC, or b) measure bolt stretch on each rod bolt as you tighten to...

    MEP-802A and MEP-803A fuel consumption

My solution to the user unfriendliness was to write a customized 'starting the generator' procedure for my wife to follow. I made her read through it and go through all the steps last month on a cold morning. I have some edits (mostly more graphics) to make to the document for clarity, but it...

    MEP-002 Awakened/ Spare Parts Questions

You can't get an MEP-002A or -003A to run after releasing the start switch unless there's sufficient oil pressure. As for warming up, the only way you can get them TO warm up is by applying a significant load for a half hour or so. They're wildly underrated beasts and are built to be...

309th Aerospace Maintenance And Regeneration Group

I think the P-3 Orion might make the Lockheed L-188 Electra the most successful of all of the big turboprop airliners. Certainly by years of production (1957-1990), and probably by cumulative flight hours (padded by lots of slow motion 12 hour patrol missions) and numbers produced (757 P-3...

    summer vs winter gasoline

I'll go ahead and put in a couple more cents worth as I used to do lab work with gasoline. Gasoline is a mixture of hundreds of different hydrocarbon compounds. Pump automotive gasoline usually has ethanol and some detergents added as well. As 74M35A2 said, the difference between summer and...

    New guy with MEP-002A questions

I've thought some about shed designs for my MEP-002A. The concern is that I want to make it a weatherly home for the generator and reduce noise at ground level some, but have to avoid making a pleasant home for rodents. The plan is to put on a roof and some semi-closed sides with sound...
