Killer Deal! Congrats! That's a 20-years-ago kinda deal!
When I first brought my truck home 4 years ago, my next door neighbor stomped out of his house, walked up to me and said "what in God's name are you going to do with THAT!" I looked him in the eye and adamantly replied "I'm going to drive...
Quite often folks post here wanting to know what a deuce in good shape is currently going for... if I may be so bold, would you share with us what you gave for this varied and wondrous treasure? (BTW, I'm particularly envious of the "new heads still in box")
I take lots of pictures with my phone during disassemblies for reference when reassembling, I then have a bad tendency to delete them all when the job is done. I did manage to find ONE old one on my computer that i missed deleting for comparison of the engine bay...
That hose is intended to dampen the vibration and movement of the copper line it's attached to at the other end. You can replace that whole run, hose & copper, with just one piece of DOT nylon tubing...
Not long after I got my truck, I decided I'd replace every bit of the age-and-vibration-subjected, crooked, crushed, kinked, dented, copper air and fuel line with DOT (Department of Transportation approved) nylon tubing other than the 2 exceptions listed below*.
THE 2 EXCEPTIONS...
*1. The air...
I should clarify, 2500 rpm is about as fast as I ever wind mine up, *and only momentarily to get the revs up to prepare for the 3rd to 4th gear shift when going up a hill. Otherwise, 2200 rpm is about my max, and that gets me 55 mph in 5th with 46" tires and 3053A trans (GPS confirmed). Shifts...
A lot of this depends on an accurate measurement of speed too... I know speedo adapters were available to make the gauge read correctly with 395/85R20 tires (46"), but I don't know if there's a similarly easy method to correct the speedo for 53" tires. IMO, using your phone/GPS to track speed...
Maybe a bit off-topic, but I believe the real advantage with 53" tires is that they would couple nicely with the Spicer 3052 transmission. The 3052 had 5 nicely-spaced gear ratios. If your truck has the typical 3053A transmission, you probably notice one heck of a dip in RPM when you shift from...
Your tires appear to be Goodyear AT-2A's. Per Goodyear factory specs, "Maximum Speed Service" is 55 mph for both the 14R20 and 16R20 sizes...

Porkysplace comment about "Brakes were state of the art in 1949" is just...

IIRC, you should be able to smack those on an inside edge with a punch and get them to pivot in place, like a...
The AC was put in by Boyce Equiptment, Ogden Utah, when the last owner had the truck (around 2014-2015?). At that time the cab was otherwise stock, other than being carelessly hosed with gray enamel. Without the cab sealing and insulation I added during the interior renovation the AC had very...
Since the compressor base gaskets are readily available, and not that expensive, I'd definetly go with a pre-cut one. Dry would be fine. If anything, you could treat it to a very light film of gasket sealant. Gasket sealants are very different than gasket makers (RTV). Contrary to popular...
- Re; the intake filter, yes, there should be a little housing bolted to the compressor head where supply air is drawn into, sometimes a hose may be connected to it leading to your main engine air filter canister. Inside the little housing is typically a spring, porous/rigid filter element (that...
You're going to need to remove the compressor, which is no big deal, loosen the belt, remove the governor line, discharge line, the little bracket which holds the fuel injector return line away from the pulley (if it's still there), and the 2 nuts/2 bolts on the base. While you've got the...
I just started using the cordless Milwaukee 2767 impact/2646 grease gun /Batteries/Charger combo from Amazon... That 1/2" impact zips torqued lugs off right. dang. now., cant imagine I'd ever need/utilize anything bigger. And... MAAANNNNN is it nice to not have to wrestle to pump a slimy...
Only the first letter of the acronym; Obsessive... and no worse than many other passionate craftsmen or competitors. Those with true OCD tend to focus so intently on a single detail that they have trouble managing time and completing an overall task. Whether it's fabrication, gunsmithing...
