I don't like how they have a relatively small strip of rubber running down the center that is all smooth. It wasn't a big deal when it was dry, but driving on the highway with them in the rain they felt squirrelly. My thought is they were designed primarily for off-road driving where the tire...
You can also find them on Erik's Military and Surplus. Erik's also carry a heavy duty option, and if you buy a few of them send an e-mail and ask for a volume discount.
But that's just a guess. I'm gonna have the tires professionally mounted and balanced, they can always put a lead weight on after they attached the valve stem.
I don't understand what you mean by this. Ok, I did some web searches. So, my machinist isn't a wheel guy - I couldn't find a wheel specialist that can work on a 24.5 wheel, so I went with a machinist who had a table big enough. I spoke with a tire place that does mostly commercial truck...
I posted a general question elsewhere, but here's the problem I'm having.
Should the bolt holes be chamfered? I'm going with a dually set-up now and when I read about modern hub piloted wheels, the bolt holes are NOT chamfered, they're only chamfered on stud piloted.
Chamfering both sides...
On the M35A2, the wheel bolt holes are chamfered. Are the wheels considered stud piloted or hub piloted wheels? I thought they were hub piloted, but in hub pilot systems, there is no chamfer on the bolt holes - at least on modern wheels.
Wheel blanks arrived today. 62lbs each, aluminum, chrome (bleh) - have to rattle can those, they'd look ridiculous on the truck. Machinist is the next step.
From the military or private sellers? I've seen a handful from private sellers, but I thought the government was done auctioning HEMTT's for the time being.
I recall reading, somewhere, about someone that had gotten a HEMTT at auction, and later bought a non-running one for parts. He towed the 2nd one with the first, that'd be something to see going down the highway.
I'd love to have HEMTT myself, but I don't have a place to put one atm. When I was shopping for a truck I decided to go for the M35 for the fuel mileage and you don't need a CDL (at least in my state) to drive one.
If the military starts auctioning HEMTT's again though, I might find the space.
So, it's not that I'm anti-social, but my passenger seat is probably empty 99% of the time. Ok, maybe I'm a little anti-social.
Has anyone ever heard of/seen a temporary vehicle seat? Something that can be broken down and stored away or collapses in some way - function over comfort. I will...
Mostly. Batteries are around 7.5" tall with posts. They'll be resting on a rubber pad, with sides and the top free. When I spoke to the fabricator for the tank he said he thought he could make a fuel cell 7" high, if it needs to be taller, then the sub-floor will be taller. The water tanks...
Well, if you're not in a hurry, I'm working on a project to replace my wheels at which time my wheels and their adapter plates will be available. To be honest, I don't know that I'll be selling the plates to break up the set. I have spare wheels though.
My plan is to put a custom built camper in the bed with a 9" sub floor. This sub floor will contain a lot of mechanicals for the camper including a custom built fuel cell. It might be too unwieldy to have a single tank so I've been thinking 2 will be easier to install. The tank pictured a few...
