    M38A1 Top

Where you live that top may not be a big deal. Up here in Michigan it could turn a summer jeep into a four season jeep. All kidding aside, I’m glad you caught this and now know it’s value. It imposable to know how many of these tops went to the scrap pile.

    M37 battery drain

This is good to know. A .8 amp load will definitely drain your batteries. The good news is, if you can measure it, you can find it. Now it’s just a process of elimination. It has been suggested that the voltage regulator has a stuck contact. If you have the stock regulator, you can simply unplug...

    M37 battery drain

Are you able to read current flow with the clamp amp meter? I don’t know if a clamp amp meter can measure DC current… It might, I just have never tried it…

    M37 battery drain

If you get arc when you connect the battery, we should be able to find the reason. I use process of elimination. Try to put a amp meter or 24 volt light bulb in series with the battery lead. You will see the current flow on the meter or the bulb will light up ( maybe dim if the draw is low) ...

    5-Ton Noise Levels

Not in my world! I put Dyna Mat inside the cab on the passenger side (where the exhaust stack is). I put some on the inside of the doors, now they thud when I close them. I added 1/2” rubber mats to the floor. This mod lowered the noise the most. I bought the mats at Tractor Supply. It’s used...

    HMMWV...Lost interest

You don’t have to leave this site just because you sell your vehicles. Once a Steel Soldier always a Steel Soldier! If you have restored an HMV, you have knowledge to share with people that are just starting out in the hobby. We all learn so much from each other. It would be a shame to loose...

    M37 spark plugs

I was a Big Electric member too. My 1953 M37 has the same spark plugs in it that came with the truck when I bought it in 2001. It is not a daily driver by any means but I do get it out several times a year. I think I have a few spare spark plugs for it. We may start to see a time when we just...

WTA- 60 who here has one

If you get it working, bring it to Michigan. Benton Harbor just found out they have lead in their water just like Flint did. You could set it up and sell drinkable water. It’s hard to imagine that folks can’t have drinkable water when we are surrounded by the Great Lakes. It’s the old water...

    Integrated Battery Chargers

I have one Noco in the barn. It’s a good unit. I use battery Tenders on my vehicles and I use the Noco to keep my loose 12 volt batteries fresh. Your choice to use a dual out unit to tend both batteries is good. I use 24 volt Battery Tenders because they make them. It’s just a personal...

    installing a batt. disconnect switch

This is another reason to use a 24 volt to 12 volt dc to dc converter and not “half tap” your 24 volt system. There are a lot of posts on the site about this topic. The short answer is, spend a few bucks on the dc to dc converter, install the battery cut off switch on the negative battery...

WA Hagerty comes through - again

We stopped at the Hagerty “ garage” while on the 2021 MVPA Yellowstone convoy. We got to hang out with the folks that work there. They fed us an unbelievable dinner and we had a great time looking over their extensive collection of cars, trucks and boats. I have three vehicles insured with them...

    M1088 camper conversion

I used fuse it a lot on my build. Three years later and two trips across America, sometimes on rough roads, and no failures. It seams to work just as well in cold temperatures. I highly recommend this stuff.

HMWV M996 Ambulance body whats it worth?

It would be an interesting project to mount this body on a civilian chassis. Maybe like a F150 or something. It might make a great little camper.

    Pintle hitch bolts- What grade?

When it’s time to restock my hardware cabinet, I buy grade 8. Tractor Supply sells their hardware by the pound. I grab a bag, go to the grade 8 bolts and nuts and grab a fist full of each size and length I think I might need. When I get home I spend some time sorting them and putting them in the...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I put de-splined flange caps on the front axel of my M934. Now a friend of mine wants to do the same. My question is are the flange caps the same for a 900 series and a 900 A2. His truck had CTIS but it has been disconnected. Thanks in advance for the help…

Towing a fifth wheel toy hauler w/ LMTV

I added electric breaks to my M934. I already had a 12 volt system for the camper section so I have a good 12 source. I used a 24 volt relay that operates with the break lights. The relay switches 12 volts to the controller. I use a Draw Tight controller that has graduated output when the breaks...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

The brand I use is “Battery Tender” I have three 24 volt units for my MV’s and a couple 12 volt units for my lawn equipment. I connect those during the winter when they sit idle for a few months. If you can’t find them locally, Amazon has them. There are several sizes. I use the 3 amp models.
