I'm Lost- Pass. hub got hot and melted plastic 4x4toggle

Plowboy, You really got into her, more than just wheel bearings! The pics above are a Dana 60 (M1008 and similar). If working on an M1009 10 bolt front, you'll see different parts but the concepts are the same. Pics are always worth 1000 words!

I'm Lost- Pass. hub got hot and melted plastic 4x4toggle

Good advice from Hal. It's not a bad job and a good chance to get to know your truck. Since you said the hub is shot, I'd look the spindle over carefully for any scoring or major damage. Make sure you clean any metal shavings/dirt off the spindle and any parts you re-use. Since you'll be...

M1009 Rear Diff Change Less Drag!

That epoxy is normal. It holds the magnet in place. I'm surprised you were able to feel the difference, but +1 for doing some maintenance [thumbzup]

I'm Lost- Pass. hub got hot and melted plastic 4x4toggle

If you didn't smell the brakes, X2 on the wheel bearings! Time for service. Hopefully the spindle or hub itself isn't damaged.

    M1008 Gearing or Transmisson

There is no one right answer to this question. I get asked this one a lot and for good reason. In your case I'd lean towards what most are recommending which is a transmission solution. 700R4 - good option, probably the lowest cost but not for high power TH400 with gear vendor type unit -...

Best Place to buy CUCV Parts

Old thread that came up in a search for something else... For the record, I like to think that we are a pretty good source for the CUCV parts that can't be found at your local parts store. Give us a try.

Where can I buy rear cap replacement window for M1009?

If you haven't found them, we have them. I typically avoid shipping glass but I guess that is what the insurance is for... -HW

    Differential Breather

x2 I do this to all my vehicles that moonlight as boats. Another good mod for water crossings is an electric fan. The mechanical fan doesn't do so well when it hits water and then takes out the radiator. Last but not least, don't forget about the automatic transmission. They hate water even...

M1028 Front dana 60 king pin kit question

We've done kingpins more times than I can count. 99% of the time I replace everything. Sometimes the kingpin itself is fine. Overall, it's not a difficult job to do.

    m1028 backlash problem

The above is good advice. The spec on a D60 is about .004 to .009 if I recall. Ring and pinions will wear a pattern into the gears. After that the backlash settings and pattern really should remain the same for proper gear life. A front diff doesn't get much "action" so the gearset might be...

    cucv losing power any ideas/help

Did you ever get you truck running 100%? One other item to check/replace is the check valve and screen that is threaded into the back of the IP. Not exactly easy to get to but if it gets clogged you can see those symptoms. We've got them new if you find that you need one. -HW

WARWAG Dana 60 UPGRADE / REBUILD

Sounds like you did your build the right way! Nice work. We use the Yukon product line for all our rebuilds and have been happy with the price vs quality. Anyone working on the D60 kingpins, the most common failed part is the nylon bushing and the lower seal. It usually makes sense to do...

Stop by! We are all set up with tons of CUCV parts, axle parts, lockers, lots too see. It's going to be a great show. I tried to post a few photos but I'm too much Hillbilly and not enough tech savy to get it working from my phone....
