I've already cut out the bad floor wood and back wall and replaced it. I've got dozens of boxes on the way to me now with new brackets, handles, bezels, and trim. I have to build or buy a swing out bracket to clear the humvee with ease when backing under. I'm putting some nice plank floor...
Sorry I haven't posted in a bit on this. I was busy shopping craigslist for some cut off jean shorts, a rebel flag, Nascar #3 flag...and some Billy Bob beer. But, I digress.
Picked up the camper Friday night for $600. Was tricky. Had I not removed the Humvee canvas top brackets it...
Already planning for it. Tonight I am on all backroads to get it home and don’t have to go over 20 mph if I don’t want. I will strap it down. It comes with some heavy duty mounts that I will modify to the truck if I decide this is even worth the trouble. For $600 and a few hours time. If I...
We made a deal for $600 and I’ll pick it up tonight. Needs a ton of clean up
going look like GI Joe meets the Beverly Hillbillies. But could be a lot of functional fun for camping where normal campers don’t go. I’ll update some pics when I can.
Yep, there is nothing sexy or attractive about a camper shell to start with...then mismatch on the Humvee...and well, it just looks strange! I'm trying to imagine a similar look and then matching camo paint on the shell.
Thanks for the pics and ideas! hey.,..I found a SLIDE IN truck bed camper last night just down the road from me for sale. Ran some measurements. It would be super tight but the width is essentially the same as the M998 (7') and it would easily sit in the bed. It is made for an 8' truck...
That is awesome!
I don't currently have the up and over rails and canvas for the troop carrier. I have the seats, but removed them for now and just have the back open. I also opened up the dour door rear man panels and made them open with soft top hinges and handles - but the seat pods...
Good stuff - the plan here is to build a plywood filler for the floor to the whole rear deck (set up as a two man) it open for set a tent.
Some of the tents I'm seeing (four man) are 8'x7', but I think we can easily do a flip out plywood panel floor to catch that width - but have to think it...
This weekend I put my Humvee in a local car show. I had no intention of getting a trophy as it was a show-n-shine where clean wins. I have no time in my life or interest in cleaning the truck that well - in fact, I thought about taking it out mudding and bringing it to the show extra dirty...
I did the same, but also hooked them to the trans switch - makes it nice so they automatically come on with reverse, but I have them also switched so I can use for working behind the truck. Have to remember to take it out of R when I park it - because the way I have it they would stay lit and...
We sold our 27' Salem travel trailer this year. Would still like to do some camping on the cheap. Thinking about putting some plywood in the bed of the truck and setting a tent there - seems like a popular thing these days.
Anybody doing this? I have some camp grounds in reasonable driving...
The only non-new part in the system is the time delay module. I would suspect that is what would not hold it in longer. I thought I read it only locks in for 20 seconds, not to 180. It holds for 20 seconds for sure.
I'm pulling the sophomore class float for the homecoming parade in two weeks. My truck runs right at the limit kicking the fan on and off right around 220 - 230 degrees. I'm thinking about pulling the plug so it runs all the time.
Other than some extra fan noise - no down side to that is there?
That's kind of where I am. I've made a dozen SMALL mods like 12 volt output to trailer lights, drop hitch, converted bed to doors and set up rear seats (pickup model)...cup holders, bluetooth stereo, and a ton of maintenance items. I LOVE the truck. Puts a big smile on my face. BUT...the...
At least one of these was on the street. There was an article in the local paper years ago where they took it out during a bad snow storm and pulled people out of the ditch. But, I've seen nothing since. I'd love to have the doors and roof parts off them - not to mention the antenna mounts...
My local Sheriff's office has TWO military donated Humvees - I believe M1025 models. They are both hard top fast back models showing build date of 1990. I don't know how long they have had them, but they have both been sitting in the same spot so long they are becoming one with the parking...
