Congratulations on your new truck! Actually, the Spicer is syncro in the top four gears. It won't shift quite as quickly as a manual car transmission, but you definitely don't want to be too slow on upshifts. Find the balance between too slow and too fast with the gear lever. You'll get used to...
My alternator suddenly refused to get out of the yellow on the gauge. Sometimes it would work and go green for a few minutes. I bought a replacement alternator only to discover that the ground connection from my alternator to the frame was done by a moron. I installed a new ring terminal...
Wow! Imagine finding RTK, Hank, and Digger on the same thread at the same time! I was taught many years ago that a bit of light white smoke means you're a bit lean on the fuel to air ratio.
I've experienced disappearing brake fluid syndrome myself. In my case it was caused by two leaking rear brake cylinders. I always check brakes before I hit the road.
Hello LTD. I own a bobbed Deuce and I live in Phillipsburg N.J. My Multi has always been easy to start and in the cold months I add an anti-gel product from NAPA to the tank. There was one night recently when the outside air temperature was about 6 degrees. My Multi didn't want to start. I gave...
I rebuilt a number of Gray Marines (Detroit 6-71s) while in the Navy. I also used to drive a single axle White tractor with a 10sp. Road Ranger pulling tank trailers. Detroits are easy to work on. I love the sound. With the the Deuces 6.72 axle ratio the relatively tall low would probably be...
I bought Ouverson lockouts for my truck and I like them. They are quite easy to install. I've done a lot of driving in snow this winter on days when the temperature is in the single digits and I've never have any problems locking or unlocking them.
They are drive tires. The T-831s are rated for a top speed of 55 mph. Perfect for a Deuce. Singled they are rated at 7,000 lbs capacity each. Dueled about 6,400. Both weight ratings are at 120 psig. I haven't noticed any steering problems with mine on the front axle. I've only driven it about...
My bed is 8' long. I wish it were 9' sometimes. His tires are 11x20 Firestone T-831s. I'm very happy with them. Their performance in snow is awesome. They seem to do well in dirt as well. That's what they were designed for mining and quarrying.
Just my two cents...I own a bobbed Deuce with duals on the rear. I love my truck. I don't have the cargo carrying capacity of a straight Deuce, but mine serves me well for the hilly, twisty, narrow roads of NJ. People (mostly men) freak out when they see him and I get tons of thumbs ups and...
I concur with John. The steering with my T-831s was twitchy until I heeded the advice of a retired trucker and aired them up to 80 psi on the front and 55 psi on the rear. Sometimes the pronounced crown on N.J. two lane roads will require minor steering corrections, but I think that's normal...
Digger,
I've been fine thanks. Working so many hours that I haven't driven my truck in five or six days. It's been 20 degrees or less up here at night for the last two or three weeks. Let me know how the muffler comes out.
Hi Digger. I installed an aluminum turnout stack after my muffler about a half year ago. I just sprayed it with VHT high temperature flat black paint. It looks great and has held up well so far. I don't know how well it would work on chrome.
Hi Canadian Guy. I own a bobbed Deuce too as you can see by my Avatar. Good luck with your truck. That's a helluva winch you have. There are a lot of good people and good advice to be found on Steel Soldiers.
As an engineman, I frequently operated the wildcat and capstans my ship. I was always watching and listening to the tension on the line especially when the other end was connected to a tugboat. I had to slack it out quickly once. Glad I turned the trick wheel the right way! Great Lakes is frozen...
