Hey guys,
I've got a somewhat weird scenario and hoping someone might be able to shine some light on it.
84' CUCV, still have the 6.2 but I've got an SM465 tranny (super wide ratio) and an NP205 Tcase. I also put in a custom injection pump, new injectors, entirely new cooling system, and...
Glad you just replied - It reminded me of something. As someone mentioned before I got the Kent Moore tool off of ebay and that did the trick. I wanted to make things more standard though and got the Dana version of the spindle nut and installed that. Agreed with whoever mentioned it before...
And that price in the link is ridiculous at almost $100. It looks like there's other sources at closer to $20 which is about where it should be at...

This tool at least (not like the axle nut sockets) seems to be pretty standard...
Yeah, those ones, I just didn't look well enough haha. Yeah, I'm changing u-joints and ball joints all in one shot go so I'll check those out. Thanks!
Ordered the kent moore socket off of ebay to get the current nuts off (no amount of messing around with a screwdriver and hammer would do it)...
I figured a PO had swapped the axles to civvy GM 10 bolts due to the 6 lugs at the end but I haven't identified the axles beyond the 10 bolts on the diff cover. Stock the M1009 had 8 lug axles right?
Porkysplace - yeah, saw that one too! It doesn't say the size but I'm going to find out, I...
wow, thanks for the quick reply! I'll look for the lock in there tomorrow. Don't know if you can see in the pic but this nut has 6 slots for the socket, not sure how the 4 prong socket will even work in there? Do you know what this type of nut is called?
Hey guys,
Trying to get my front axle shaft out to do ball joints and u joint and I get to this nut which doesn't seem to match anything else I've seen. The axle's (84 CUCV) were swapped to 6 lug GM 10 bolts (previous owner) and Mile Marker hubs put in. I have the standard 4 prong spindle nut...
Much better today! I noticed it was running a bit weird with the fuel screw a 1/4 back so I went 1/8 to the right and bumped the timing a little more advanced (maybe 3/16 to the right total?). No more white smoke at idle! Then the tach n time showed up in the mail and actually worked! Its...
the stick is a 4 speed ,its really more a crawling gear (L) plus 3 street-able gears. Great for off-roading and not sucking up the minimal power of the 6.2!
Today I experimented with backing off the fuel and advancing the timing. Advanced the timing a couple mm and backed off the fuel screw 1/8...
Thanks for the reply! ahhh- valve train, hadn't thought of looking in there. Makes sense. Found some more stuff out yesterday as well -
threw the gaskets and manifold on and just tightened down the studs near the little exhaust ports for testing- it *does* run a little different, I guess...
Hey guys,
This is my first post but I've been reading for a while. Been troubleshooting white smoke on my CUCV since freaking August!
In August she totally crapped out on me, lost all power and it wouldn't stay running.
Things I did after that:
electric fuel pump add
fuel filter
clear return...
