    Good suggestion, will try.

    MEP-803a panel lights flickering

Thanks for that. I'm getting 1.4 ohms between any pair of ground screws on the back of the oil pressure, temperature, and fuel level gauges.

    MEP-803a panel lights flickering

Interesting that it happens without running, that eliminates the whole charging side doesn't it? Not sure if the pump is the cause or just another effect. Not sure what the deal is with the video, will investigate.

    MEP-803a panel lights flickering

I haven't had time to do much with my system but it has been sitting on the driveway so when I have a few minutes in the evening I go mess with it to see if I can identify a pattern to the flickering. I found that the flickering seems to connected to a change in the sound of the fuel pump. In...

    MEP-802A/803A gauge lighting

I just did these on mine and they are nice! Had to adjust the sockets so the half moon cover only takes two turns to seat in order to get them in with no contact, they are tall.

    MEP-803a panel lights flickering

I appreciate the coaching, you guys are great! CR1 looks okay visually, I tugged on it some with no change in behavior. This is an intermittent issue though, took me half an hour to catch the clip above, so that complicates the verification process. I have a 24V test lamp with alligator clips...

    MEP-803a panel lights flickering

Sorry, should have mentioned that prior to 1:20 I was toggling the panel lights. Figured I would exercise the switch a bunch to see if it would make something happen.

    MEP-803a panel lights flickering

Okay, back to this problem with more data, I caught it on video! Watch from 1:20 to 1:50 keeping an eye on the temperature gauge. It drifts down slowly, then pops back to normal when the lights do, fuel gauge does the same thing. So it's something that affects both lights and gauges. Suggestions?

    MEP-803a oil pressure sender

Got it from Vehicle Controls thanks to someone here mentioning it. Here's the description. 02504-00 - Datcon Standard Duty Oil Pressure Sender 0-80PSI Datcon Standard Duty Oil Pressure Sender: 0-80 psi / 0-5 bar, 240-33.5 ohms, 1/8"-27 Thread, Common Ground, 10-32 STUD Terminal, Style: Heavy...

    MEP-803a oil pressure sender

Replaced my oil pressure sender today. The front panel gauge was reading about 10 psi less than the mechanical gauge that I have teed in next to the sender. I recently replaced the gauge but the problem stayed. Replaced the sender and now both gauges read the same. Changed the oil while I had...

An interesting document - Generator Set Durability Testing

As a MEP-803a owner, this was my favorite part: "It may be noted that the 10kW and 30kW generators were operated with relative ease. Those were the only generator types which experienced no major problems while on test." -- Carl

How important are MIL-SPEC gauges to you?

Good point on the wires. Nothing had to be modified to swap out the gauges. The gauge lighting is non-standard, but it's only 24V.

An overlooked 'spare' for your parts shelf

Swapped out my hoses with Surplus Center parts identified earlier in this thread, 12" hose attached to the fuel/water separator, 18" hose attached to the oil pressure sender. The sender end of the oil hose was tough to access. For the sanity of future readers, what's the "right way" to get at...

How important are MIL-SPEC gauges to you?

Replaced my gauges, make sure to order the light kits for them if you want that feature, Datcon part number 06294-00-FRU. -- Carl

    Is this load bank suitable?

Same here, and the burners are handy if you need to form your own offsets in 2" electrical conduit.

    803a would not shut off

I had the same "hit the stop button and it just keeps humming along" issue. It was an odd feeling because my experience up to that point was that engines with problems either didn't want to start, or wouldn't keep running. The linkage for my fuel shut off had vibrated loose.

    >... replaced all 3 with direct fit Datcon gauges ... Part numbers?

    MEP 804B 805B Unbalanced Load

803a here. We have two units, 3 ton and 3.5 ton. We've run the whole house for days. If we want to run another 240v load (dryer, water heater) we turn off a unit. No soft start, but I like the idea and am planning to add them. -- Carl
