Re-Power from continental 6602 to diesel

My M62 has the Zenith, and gets about 2 MPG.

    HP and Torque ???

The Multifuel in the deuce is just that, a Multifuel - it may burn Diesel, but it was not designed as a Diesel. The LDT-465 Multifuel was developed from the LD-465 Multifuel, which in turn was developed from the LDS-427 Multifuel, which in 1957 was developed from the Continental TD-427 Diesel...

Re-Power from continental 6602 to diesel

the elongated nose of the 800 series was specifically designed because the Cummins would not fit under the gasser hood. The 6602 has plenty of torque, BTW.

    HP and Torque ???

These trucks were designed to spend something like 70% of their lives off road (I've got the exact figure, just too busy to look it up now) - AND the military's definition of a road can be created by driving a bulldozer through the woods. Interstate driving was not a concern to the designers...

    GL the company is SOLD!?!?

This is unlikely to be the reason for suspension in sales. Those that have been around a while will recall that CV1 (Commercial Venture 1, the first mass contracting of DRMS sales) was awarded to Levy-Lathem. CV2 (which ended in August when the current contract was awarded) went to GL, who...

Newbie needs VIN help for SF 97

On some of the older trucks the number is stamped into the passenger's side frame rail, same general area. DD

    1963 studebaker 109?

The truck is not a diesel, but may well be a Multifuel. The LDS-427 had a horizontal exhaust like the gas engine, as did the early models of the LD-465. If the truck really is a 1963, it was built with the LDS-427 - but there is a good chance its been reengined with the LD-465. Fine looking...

    Surprise email from GL

The current contract between DoD and GL(http://www.secinfo.com/d11MXs.t1h4f.d.htm#1stPage ), which of course was written by DoD, addresses this specifically. "Certain property identified for return may have already been resold by the Contractor and no longer in the Contractor’s possession...

Newbie needs VIN help for SF 97

Donnie, As Kenny said, your truck is a 1969 Kaiser-Jeep. The manufacturer's serial number is 032525201 - and it is stamped in the frame rail. The 04M87769 is the army registration number, and is NOT stamped on the frame rail, but rather was painted on the truck, and sometimes stamped in the...

M109 pilfered at GL Ft. Riley

OK FT, you win, we need to stop looking for and prosecuting thieves. Turn out the boys that stole your guns. Instead, we need to sue the people who it is felt are not putting in place strong enough security. You should sue some PD in Alabama over your guns gettign stolen - they are supposed...

    Vietm Gun Trucks

Well, since you asked such a broad question - the French were in Vietnam before we were, and they mounted 40mm Bofors on CCKWs. More to what you are after, a few gun trucks were equipped with a pair of GE miniguns. Not the largest caliber, but assuradly the most fire power. Regards, David Doyle

M109 pilfered at GL Ft. Riley

I appreciate you and your friend Terry's frustration - but he shouldn't be saying "thanks GL" over this, he should be saying "thanks" to the thieving scumbag that took it. If the gauge cluster had been stolen out of his truck while it was parked at your house, he'd not be pissed at you - he'd...

Deuce age, or how old is it really?

YOUR truck - the date of the contract is in the contract number (at least during this time period). The contract date is not (usually) the same as the delivery date. And in fact, counter to what a lot of folks think - the contract date is usually NOT the same as a delivery date. Here is an...

Deuce age, or how old is it really?

The -72 is actually a suffix to the registration number - which is NK00VX - and in fact is the year of delivery. The 0539-15198 is the manufacturer's serial number - or what is commonly called the VIN.

Deuce age, or how old is it really?

Factory gauge clusters have an embossed rim whether for gas or multifuel, but I don't recall ever seeing a converted truck with an embossed rim on the gauge cluster. Kenny is sending you in the right direction with regard to the motor mount. And of course, the stamped frame numbers don't...

Deuce age, or how old is it really?

If the truck was a gasser that has been repowered the panel containing the gauges will be a flat piece of plate. Trucks that were built as multifuels have a rolled seam around the perimeter of the plate. HTH, David

    M170 USMC Radio Jeep

Dial up Dave at WeeBee Webbing - he built an award-winning M170 ambulance jeep a few years ago, and is now working a radio jeep. Given the level he took the ambulance to, I am sure he has a LOT of info on the radio version as well. HTH, David

    V100 Paint Scheme Question

I'm coming in a little late on this - but will chime in with there is a bit more to this than the "plain" SG olive drab on the M706, XM706E1. First, if you can determine the original registration number of YOUR vehicle, then it is possible I or someone else on this forum has a photo of your...

    New Owner with M37 question

If it is ex-ambulance, MB2 or R2, the back wall of the cab would home made (well, on the last two, darn near the whole cab would be homemade). Contact maintenance truck would have a PTO and governor - telephone line maintenance would be basically plain-jane. Best way to be sure is with a tape...
