Mep-803a top cover off with questions

Aside from the corrosion on top of that LPW4 engine, those glow plug cables look like they've had some high current in them. I'd be checking the R value of each of the glow plugs (with each one isolated from the rest) and also check the glow plug relay for possible sticking. I've read here in...

    DN4M pistons

The first time I pulled them both like you did was a few years ago. I had an 803A that was leaking oil really bad from between the engine and the gen head. My suspicions were correct. The rear crankshaft shaft seal was leaking. Like you mentioned, it’s so much easier to split them apart when...

    DN4M pistons

That’s exactly how I did the one last year. I’m also fortunate to have an overhead hoist on a sliding I-beam. It makes those jobs very nice to do. Good work 🤙

    MEP-831A Fuel Pump

That’s a nice set. Looks to be made for diesel engines.

    MEP-831A Fuel Pump

Good stuff, thank you Ray. I am hearing some noises along with the diesel knocking noise. My gut tells me that you’re right on. When I put a socket on the crankshaft and roll it around, it doesn’t sound good. Are these cranks and rods hard to find? Expensive? These look pretty simple to tear...

    MEP-831A Fuel Pump

I have a nice Snap-on compression gauge, just need to find out if I can get a rubber tip attachment to push it onto the injector hole. It’s set up with thread in hoses and fittings for gas engine spark plug holes. I’ve got the engine out of the generator enclosure. It looks pretty simple to tear...

    MEP-831A Fuel Pump

Well, as this forum has taught me, if all else fails then read the TM’s.😛 I did find a break down of the fuel pump in the TM’s. The two copper washers (called gaskets) we’re in the same place when I took it apart. One is supposed to be on each side of metering valve. I reassembled it as per the...

    MEP-831A Fuel Pump

I forgot to mention, I’ve got a steady steam of return fuel going back to the tank.

    MEP-831A Fuel Pump

Today I’ve been working on this MEP-831A 3kw unit. I bought it home a couple of weeks ago. Initially I found that the Yanmar engine was missing one of the rocker arms and it had a bent push rod. I was able to get those parts and I installed them today. It’s also missing the lever on the inside...

Just when you thought you've seen it all!

I think the general consensus here will be Delo 400 15/40. Although, if your outside temperature is down near 0 degrees you may want something thinner.

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

    That was my guess also.

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

I can certainly give that a try, thanks Kurt. One other interesting thing that I've noticed...at least while dealing with the 803A unit that I'm currently working on. The well nut hole is located very close to the bottom of the plastic tank, as it should be so that most of the fuel can be...

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

BTW...they look like galvanized washers, but they're just the run of the mill zinc coated.

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

Thanks for the suggestions Kurt. If I tighten the outside nut up against an additional neoprene seal, I believe it will simply distort it?

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

The other thing that has me confused is some of the photos in that thread are showing a metal surface on the outside where the neoprene washer seals. I thought that the 802's and 803's have plastic fuel tanks? That's what I'm dealing with anyway, plastic tanks where the well nut is recessed...

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

Wow! The above thread on well nut retrofits began back in 2017 and it's still growing! That's my problem I believe. I've been trying to use (2) 3/4" ID flat washers and (2) neoprene washers. (1) each on the inside and (1) each on the outside. When reading the super long thread though it appears...

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

Thank you Guy. Someone is burning the midnight oil!

    MEP-8xx fuel drain

I’m struggling with a retrofit fuel drain on these 800 series generators. I purchased some 3/4” bulkhead fittings with 1/4” NPT internal threads. The nut size for these bulkhead fittings is 1”. I also purchased some 3/4” ID neoprene flat seals and some 3/4” ID flat washers to back them up. The...

Mep-802A crank no start, high crankcase pressure

Did you find out if you had standard or oversized pistons?

Mep-802A crank no start, high crankcase pressure

I hope everything goes well for you on this!
