Afternoon folks, I am also in the market for a paper copy of a TM 5-3431-221-15 for a Libby welding corp LTO-300 gasoline powered welder,(FSN 3431-253-0558 ) I searched here and online and found nothing.
Evening all,
Mr. Lucas actually purchased my M151A1, It originally came from the collection of Dave MaGillavagry .( I may have misspelled his last name).
Another of our SS brethren passed on this past Sunday,
A friend and fellow MV enthusiast, Neil Hendrix passed away at home Oct 27th. I spent several events, Aberdeen, Georgia, the NC rally both convoying to and from and many hours talking Deuces and MVs in general with him.
He will be greatly...
I was planning on driving down Friday and stay till Sat noonish, but I just picked up a job clearing a housing development, so it's work Friday and Sat, saving up for an M917 for the grading business!!
Maybe next year......
To be honest, The markings on that truck were not period correct, the yellow bridge plate and door markings would be correct for a semi-gloss OD truck, Unless the passenger door has been replaced it should have a 17 in the yellow circle, that would be the unloaded bridge weight classification...
I would buy a gallon, by the time you fill it, bleed it, then refill it, It may use that much.
I think I left that wrecker DOT 5 fluid, I'm fairly sure Mark only used DOT 5 as well.
Nice recovery, I thought that 816 looked familiar, does it still have General Nuisance on the hood?
I was the first civilian owner of that M816, I put about 5000 miles on it in the few years I owned it, Mark bought it from me several years ago, It was featured in a Military Vehicles Magazine...
It's official designation is Wrecker, 10 ton, 4x4 M553, a variant of the GOER vehicles, they pre-date the Hemmets by about 20 years, all manufactured by Caterpillar, here are 2 videos of it running after I traded it to Papabear,
Articulated in roll and yaw, and believe it or not, AMPHIBOUS...
I actually have owned 3 5 ton wreckers, an 816, an M543A1 and a M62A1, as well as a M553 10 ton wrecker, and as someone else stated, once you have one, you'll never be without one!
Just a few pics of them, some working and some not.
I remember that trip, and still have a mental image of the M37 behind the 813, (think knot on the end of a whip)
That plus seeing that same M37 almost sending an M35A2 "wheels up" making a turn, Convoy memories.
Difficult to believe, I usually only got to see Ron at Georgia, once in a while we would cross paths while either of us was out on a recovery of another MV. We had our differing views on trucks, engines, etc.
I always enjoyed our discussions at the Ga rally, he most definetly had a vast supply...
As others have stated, pull all 3 driveshafts, or if you are worried about the differentials, pull all 4 rear axle shafts and the front drive flanges and cover the holes.
If you do option 2 , there is less drag on the 5 ton ( less mechanicals rotating), you may want to back the brake shoes off...
