    What fuel?

RE: Re: RE: What fuel? The second (=heated tank) will reach 140-145°F with the coolant running thru the heating coil. It will get to about 125° on its own on a hot summer day with the engine running, just from the warming effect of the return fuel. The engine loves the warm fuel, hot veggie/bio...

    Injector pump

Check the basics, is there a return spring? The control lever (or "throttle", although as you know a diesel doesn't have a throttle in the gasoline engine sense), only controls a stop within the governor housing. If the governor mechanism isn't moving freely, it may be stuck in "high". To...

    What fuel?

As is commonplace for a forum like this, questions and answers get repeated, so here again about the FDC. It should really be called a fuel viscosity compensator and it has nothing to do with how the engine burns the fuel, it only adjusts the amount of fuel delivered. The FDC is only calibrated...

    Battery post melt down

A poor connection will increase the resistance, which will cause a dramatic increase in heat generation (=meltdown). A good connection at the battery should only have a few milliohms of resistance, causing only a few tenth of a voltage drop when the start motor is running. A side effect of a...

Toe-in with singles and radials - thoughts?

Caster for the deuce should be about 4° regardless of tire type (bias or radial). Make sure it's the same on both sides, sagging leaf springs will effect the caster. Keeping the rear tandem axles couples without a differential will effect the steering effort on hard pavement, don't know about...

Hey Kenny, quick question, were the circled reflectors original equipment or did you add them? Thanks,

    Strange Alcohol Evaporator

Mark, it draws alcohol (methanol) vapor from the bottle, which mixes with any water in the system, which in turn prevents ice from forming. Similar to the deuce or xm757 systems I have. The alcohol consumption is about 1 pint/1,000 miles in my experience. Image is from the xm757 8x8 with...

Winter biodiesel and WVO use - what works for you?

It's Racor model 1000FG with 24vdc heater. I should have it installed in a few days and will post images. http://www.maesco.com/products/racor/r_tbn_intro_hwy/r_tbn_intro_hwy.html

Original Color of the M543 Wrecker

The drive train/undercarriage on my 1969 xm757 was OD as was everything else on the vehicle. Some parts of the frame were painted black by previous owner (not Army). The best match I have found is the Aervoe 24084 (997B). David did not suggest Aervoe, but the color match is very good.

    When Multi?

My 1968 USMC M49A2C came with a vertical exhaust and naturally aspirated multi. Found this on the 5-ton vertical exhaust, PS Magazine Jan 1968 (image).

    Air filter canister

A reminder that the deuce air intake filter canister does not have a drain, so after possible exposure to heavy rain, melting snow and splashing water from fording, check for water. In particular, if you don't have the right angle fitting for the mushroom.

    Turbo photos

You are welcome Jeff. Some of the "extra" features on these vehicles is what makes it special to own one, blackout lights, soft tops, removable doors, fuel density compensator, flame heater, means to waterproof the engine, flip-up wind shield, passenger seat that doubles as a stand for a...

    Unimog 404 brake issue

I know nothing about the Mog, but if it was any other vehicle, I'd check the mechanical adjustments (brakeshoe to drum/disc). Brakefluid is brakefluid, a non compressible liquid, shouldn't make a difference.

In my world, I'm known for reinventing the wheel, sometimes I'm even the first. :-) Bear with me, guess I'm to lazy with my research or something.

    Towbar adapter machining... rdixiemiller?

RE: Re: RE: Towbar end after machining. Yes, they need a 1-3/4" gap to fit, the medium towbar is 1-1/4". We ran a therad on this a while back and nobody found the missing link here, so in order to have a working towbar, my (and Robert's) solution is to mill them. Beltfed, Austin Aviation, on...

    Need a PTO for M35A2

RE: Re: Need a PTO for M35A2 Gerhart, are there hydraulic pumps that feature a thru shaft, so that it could be mounted in line with the drive shaft to the winch? Then the winch OR the pump could be used as needed from the same PTO.....not trying to steal the thread or anything, just offering a...
