I put a convex mirror on the right hand side, from a HMMWV I believe. I like the smaller ones for the same reason Ken does, they can easily be moved out of the way when off road.
The XM757 8x8 came standard with a compact "West Coast" style mirror in '69.
The starter solenoid should not be a problem for the standard push button switch, you may have a bad solenoid. When using the switch give it a firm push, if the contact is intermittant or weak, arcing/sparking will destroy it.
When switching inductive loads it's SOP to use some kind of arc...
What was the ambient temp during your tests? How long did you crank before start?
I understand a magnetic oil pan heater may not be so good if it's windy, right or wrong?
OIl pan and oil pump pictures. The pump is within the deep part of the pan.
It's not a good idea to drill into the oil pan, metal shavings could get caught in the pump. Use a punch if you must make a hole.
RE: Oil Pan Location For Installing A Mechanical Oil Temp Se
Interesting project Ernie, I have a loose oil pan and can get you pictures later today.
Why not put the temp sending unit in the port at the oil cooler exit, where an oil sampler valve would normally be installed?
What's the current...
I'd like to see a "parts swap" type of thing take place at these proposed events. Perhaps a relay delivery of heavy items.
Alternate fuels discussions and demonstrations could also be included.
About engine oil, the TM calls for 10 weight in the temp range of 40°F to -10°F. Wonder how it would behave at the temps we are experiencing at the moment.
Devilman, we need your data input here (Florida temps).
Patrick, if you can read 90 on your gauge it's obviously a 120 range gauge not...

Patrick, if you get 90 psi on the dash gauge, I think you may have a regulator problem, it's supposed to open at 65-70 psi.
I have 90 pre-filter pressure and 70 tops on the gauge at any time.
We are still learning here. :-)
I'm curious about the "after shut down" pressure. Compare the "suction"...
Steve Turchet has an article on "In frame rebuilds" in the Feb 2006 MVM issue. I'm looking at it for a possible upcoming bearing check on my deuce with a low oil pressure problem.
Started the engine again this morning. Ambient was a balmy 40°F.
Oil pressure gauge in "pre-filter" port.
Oil pressure built rapidly after about 11 seconds at zero after start and stayed at 90 psi for a while and dropped to 55 in five minutes.
:-)
It needed to be done. The valve for the "high" setting was frozen and the piston cooling valve needed cleaning. Replacing the whole assembly was a good thing. Thanks for pointing it out!
