Dug up some more info, the oil pump capacity is 22 GPM at 2,600 rpm and 180°F for the multies except for the -2, which is 29 GPM at 2,800 rpm (all 30 weight oil).
Perhaps a mil-spec 25 micron filter isn't all bad then (Parmatic 690058, Purolator 65374, Wix 051596 etc).
I'm only playing the devil's advocate here, trying to find a reasonable explanation for the massive 25 micron oil filters on the multies.
Adding a bypass filter looks mighty attractive (a...
Hmm...so the soot dropped out and collected in the pan. Wouldn't that mean that there was a lot less soot in the oil then, reducing the requirement for the filter to filter it? If the pump didn't pick it up, it would stay in the pan until oil was drained/changed or is that wrong?
Do the new oils...
Here is one more, how does different oils handle soot? It's abrasive and if the oil didn't carry it along, but let it drop to the bottom of the pan it would be harmless... is there a difference here in how oils from the 60's handled soot compared to current oils?
Devilman, you made the following statement earlier,
"The term is actually suggestive and means very little to how a filter works... Even when speaking in terms of "nominal" and "absolute" micron its generic as 1, 2, 10 or 40 means nothing to flow and filtration... the beta rating is what...
I have two of these devices, one 220VAC unit, which Kenny gave me a couple of years ago and one 110VAC unit, which was installed on the XM757 engine.
I'm thinking more seriously about using these now in light of "dry start" oiling problems discussed in other threads. Heating the coolant/engine...
Jed, since I don't have bed sides or a cargo cover, these containers come in real handy for transporting stuff. They are rain proof and tuff as nails. Used by the Navy for gyroscopic instruments.
Got them from Wayne Harris in Georgia.
Tbig, I'm sure you can do it, just pointing out the obvious. :-)
PS. That's Gary Berg (polverone) in the picture, he made the decal for me upon request. Ask him for one, we should all have it.
Have a good trip Ryan, I'm 20 miles East of I-77 in VA, if you need anything.
The deuce is "in maintenance" status at the moment, but if I can help you in any other way, call me, 540 593-2001.
You would need about 20 hp and a pump with a capacity of 10 GPM and a max psi of about 3,500.
Major brands used by the military are Grove and HIAB, but there are many other manufactures, just google it.
While there, I was offered one at a ridiculously low price, but had no where to put it, as it were, my combined weight was close to 37,000 lb already. It was like being in the proverbial candystore with unlimited credit but without a shopping basket.
Jason was there also and declined. I think...
It may not be to late, but shipping is a problem...3,500 lb, I think one or two may have ben saved by DJ, the fellow in front of the my deuce in the above picture. It may not be $100/ea, but I could find out....
The outriggers and the front wheels don't get along.
I could cut the platform in half and get the outriggers in front of the fuel tank, but don't want to upset the parts of the "erector" set. :-)
The platform is so well made and does still have the footprints from the genset and and the spare...
