Since there is an ongoing discussion on how to improve the multifuel engine oil filtering, why not open the board for your opinions on what makes the oil dirty in the first place.
How does the air filter effect the particle count in the oil, how does the use of the engine (driving vs idling )...
Called Parmatic again this morning and asked about the beta factor. It was not available until the 70's with the advances in computer technology. No numbers exsist for the original filters.
Here is a page from the 1969 TM 9-2320-209-10. It should help in the search for the right TM.
The above '69 manual does have references to the gasoline powered units, including pictures and starting procedures. Those trucks are referred to as "early production models".
Re: RE: Generator belts slipping and no room to adjust
I reilize that it may sound like a "doh" type thing, but I mean loosen the bottom bracket bolts, where it's attached to the engine. Loosen them as much as possible, take the bolts out and you can hang the pully on the belts and go from there.
Could the use of an innertube have prevented this (image)?
Does the innertube make radials safer when the old rubber begins to show signs of "dry rot"?
The tires on the M656/XM757/XM791 trucks are tubeless radials.
In the summer time, expect fuel temps of about 120°F just from the return flow, which is about 1/2 gallon/minute (this is from my fuel temp gauge).
Not enough to boil off the alcohol, but some evaporation will probably occur.
Spoke with a tech at Parmatic this morning and got some answers...
1) The oil filters for the Multifuel were designed and built to specifications provided by the engineers, who designed the engine. The micron rating of the Parmatic 690058 (Purolator 65374, Wix 051596) is 25. They could have...
Any idea of the percentage of alcohol? What kind of alcohol, ethanol, methanol...? How clean is the oil, does it need to be filtered?
Is it worth the trouble?
