Thanks for the info, Steamy.
Well, mine is classified as an 8-ton crane and causes the truck to lean badly just swiveling it around when extended without a load. Then again yours is a 5-ton truck and that may make a difference.
Anybody know how much a Sherman tank turret weighs?
To finish the procedure, you need to seal the zipper to make it waterproof and it probably can't be taken apart and reused anyway.
As a side note, the boots on my 8x8 still have the zippers intact and they were not sealed, so I may be able to take them off and service them. Have no idea where...
The HIAB looks like my 1975 Model 765, but I don't see the outriggers. The operating levers are also inverted.
Yeah, I'd be curious about the crane stats too.
The 900's are rated at 4,000 lb running single.
The front axle loading on the deuce with winch and crew is over 7,000 lb for some configurations, so on the highway I would suggest 60 at a minimum for the fronts, the rears can be lower, like Kenny suggested. A good case for running 1100's, BTW...
RE: Who makes a Jacobs-type engine brake for the 250 Cummins
The exhaust brake will not give you the "big truck" sound. It produces a intense hissing sound and is about half as effective as the Jacobs, low cost though. Other driveline retarders, electric or hydraulic are very effective but quiet.
Last ball joint, number 11, will be done around midnight tonight. I'm doing the ones on the pwr steering cylinder without disconnecting the hydraulics (see image).
The procedure is very effective, had one on the front drag link peg the indicator on my torque wrench, which is about 140 ft-lb and...
Nice projects, must be expensive to work on.
It looks as if the crane outriggers sit outside the tires on the MAN, if so, how wide is the truck at that point?
Pulled ball joint #8 out of the hot oil bath a while ago. They all turn with less than 10 ft-lb of torque now, a far cry from the 70 or so.
Still have 3 of them to go....
Mark, thanks for the lead, but doesn't look like I'll need replacements any longer.
The axle breather is a normally closed affair, which opens when pressure within the axle exceeds about 1/2 psi or so. Not sure if it's a good application here. I actually leave my fitting kind of loose to protect the MC from splashing water only, easy to separate when the cap has to come off. It...
I have used a splitter off the circuit breaker that supplies the horn, wire number 25. If you want power only when the accessory switch is on, use #27 feeding the dash instruments.
