    tilt/rollover point

With open diffs the side slope capability will be limited because of traction. A loaded deuce may not be able to handle anything over 20% when the load is shifted to the downhill side wheels. Don't know the numbers, but it will loose traction before rolling over, I'm pretty sure of that (unless...

Any "easy way" to clean fuel tank/lines???

I agree with Joel. Also biodiesel in the winter time means cutting it with regular diesel or kerosene to keep it from jelling. Home made unwashed bio is more effective with its residue of methanol and you may not have access to it.

    Comparo, M108 and M62

RE: Re: RE: Comparo, M108 and M62 Big is often impressive, but small adds flexibility. (As "cranetruck", I guess I had to say something. :-))

    tilt/rollover point

Check out article in issue 87 (Oct 2001) of MVM. The biggest problem would be sloshing like Emmado points out. The military calls for 1/2 the load for off road. The inclinometer can be purchases from Westmarine.com, about $20.

Any "easy way" to clean fuel tank/lines???

Mark, just running it on fresh fuel should do it. The in-tank fuel pump will circulate 20 gallons of fuel in 1/2 hour of driving. Anything left in the system at the time of change (from old to fresh) will be greatly dilluted. The diesel itself is a cleaning agent IMHO.

Deuce is broke down in Maine :-(

Take the cover off of the fuel shut-off assembly on the IP. Make sure the lever moves freely.

Front axle seals and boots stepXstep

Very professional! Makes a great reference piece. Thanks for posting the work.

Turbo install kit just showed up

Make sure you have the oiler inlet tube and oiler drain with fittings. Drill and tap an 1/8 NPT hole in the exhaust manifold for a future pyro. Plug it or install a K-type thermocouple probe. Be prepared to enlarge the openeing in the fender for the exhaust and to retard the timing. It should...

    drilling and counter sinking holes

Don't know why I'm taking so long to finish this job. Anyway, Joel, your boards were planed today. Next, I'll rip them to required widths and finally the edges get routed for the metal strips. I'm leaving the top rough sawed for a good walking surface. It's hard to find locust that's good to a...

From white to black markings, when?

Thanks, gotcha, "when all else fails, read the instructions". Got a sample of the 24084 (Aervoe 997B) coming, hopefully it's not as brown as the 24087.

Still have my 404 for sale, considering trades too

Right, Peter. Getting ready to set the planer up for Joel's locust boards (for his pipeline truck). Weather should stay nice for another couple of days. Almost room temp yesterday.

    Fuel tank sending unit

Eric, as shown in the image, the float hits bottom at about 15 inches. You can extend it perhaps another 2 inches, but would have to cut and splice the red wire. I have dealt with this seller and had no problem. Got mine from Kcgonzo before he disappeared. They go for $15 to $45 depending on...

    Power steering question

Marti, the image below shows the cap drilled. I used a greased bit like you suggested. After two weeks of soaking one in CLP and a second soaking in "Heat Valve Lubricant" (GM), there is no change to speak of, both still require 50 to 70 ft-lb to turn. The penetrants have yet to exit on the...

From white to black markings, when?

My 8x8 has layers of paint like any other MV, and white stars now painted over. When were the white markings switched to black, subdued and were the stars eliminated at that same time? Were black stars ever used with the black markings? Desert Deuce has small black stars used with his black...

    Power steering question

I agree with you Jon. Suppose I could cook one on the stove in oil and then move it into a bath of cold oil. A digital thermometer to keep track of temps. Then again, soaking in different penetrants for two weeks didn't accomplish a thing. Wonder if the joints got tight during their time in...

Still have my 404 for sale, considering trades too

So our founder is MV short. Go to greasecar.com, they know all about Waffle House Benzes. I have an '83 240D with a bad motor with the donor '82 model parked next to it. Got a diesel Rabbit too, which the owner wants me to convert to veggie power. Way too many projects here, all weather...

Opie notool and his wonder cart

RE: Getting closer Looks like a nice shelter dolly, should come in handy. How do you heat your shelter, must be getting cold up there? Man, some of these pictures make me feel like an old fart....guess I am one. :-)

    Napa

Hey Mark, a typical NAPA store doesn't know what a deuce is, they sell autoparts in general. Try Saturn Surplus, Memphis Equipment and the like. What are you looking for?

    Power steering question

Thanks for your help Marti! Another confirmation that I'm on the right track. I began the thread with this: http://steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=8407&start=60 but separated this question from the main body of things for a more specific answer and got it. You guys...
