Your new hub MIGHT already have a race installed in it. And yes, all cone shaped bearings use races. And PLEASE don't tell us you trial installed your bearing without greasing it first! If you tried it dry, it would be very hard to turn. ( It also just might scratch it up and make it useless!)
I'm looking forward to your build. I too have fond memories of a 4X4 'burb. It was a 1/2 ton with 1 ton gear under it with a 6" lift. Had a 700R4 in it and was a blast! It was a legend around these parts. If the cancer hadn't gotten so bad......:sad...

In the future, might I suggest that you include which "truck" you are working on in your first post? Not to be picky, but sometimes it helps you get better advice. Hope the filter fixes everything.
This is a cool trip. Even if it is hot! How much fuel did you put in when you got to Kingman? Sometimes those gauges show empty even when there is plenty of fuel left.
Oh and: nopics
Have a safe trip!
Yes.
The column has to be unlocked to allow the front wheels to turn on the corners. Otherwise you would have to drag the front end around the corners. And I still say that the worrying I did before the actual deed was all unfounded. With a little caution, you should be fine.[thumbzup]
